Alcohol is not a necessity, not since we have found more efficient ways to store food. No one has been hurt by not drinking.

Still it has some nutritional value (not much) and consumed responsibly isn't a problem.

Then I remembered history and Prohibition in America, the
gangsters almost tore the country apart to get people to
buy their booze.

Yep, and today it's our War on Drugs...

Maybe a little, but a lot more boring...

I also remember how the Middle Eastern countries are and
all follow a religion that doesn't allow alcohol consumption,
this seems to make them crazy, they fight each other, then
they attack other countries where alcohol is allowed, many
are killed for the want of alcohol.

Maybe I got it all wrong and we should be flooding the place
with alcohol, to promote peace, give them enough and they
will sleep all day and party all night.

Interesting theory, so lack of alcohol is behind most terrorism... An idea worthy of some investigation.

Hey Mike! You have gone where others "fear to tread.," but an interesting topic! I'm not sure if there is a simple answer. If you ask me, I have the following thoughts:

1. Booze is the cause of all evil. This is a pretty outdated idea and just doesn't make sense.
2. Let's all drink up because maybe tomorrow we die. Well, maybe, but too much booze kills your liver and yes, you will die.
3. Everything in moderation. Alcohol in wine, beer, etc. has been around since the days of the Romans and Greeks and maybe earlier. If it was for alcohol, I bet folks would find something else to get high on and maybe forget their troubles.
4. Alcohol ain't all bad. I have fond memories, in a another life, sitting on our "deck on the rock" and looking over the lake and watching the pelicans fly by as the sun is setting & "Shooting the breeze" with my wife.
