Alcoholic Drink

Do you suffer hangovers if you drink too much?

This has puzzled me as I have never had that problem, no
matter how much I drink, or used to drink, it is not the same
now-a-days.

I have watched some very large men floored by drink and
some very small men getting no hangover at all.

My reasoning is that if your ancestors, (Father-Grandfather plus)
were heavy drinkers then it is in the genes and you are more
resistant to the demon alcohol.

Can anybody agree with this observation?

Mike.

Gee Mike, I'm sorry I can't agree since I've never read any evidence of that. On the contrary, I have read that children of alcoholics may be genetically predisposed by having inherited the same addiction gene and have a greater risk of becoming alcoholics themselves.

I don't know if anyone knows for certain, but I have seen photos of brain MRI's of alcoholics vs non alcoholics and there is a noticeable difference.

Never been drunk so I don't know. Was married to an alcoholic once that held his liquor quite well. None of his children became alcoholics. The marriage ended mainly because of the drinking.

I haven't drank that much booze in over 30 years, easier that way. We will drink a glass of champagne at a wedding or something, but that is it.

Yes I agree with that.

The ones that don't get plastered or get hangovers are called 'pacers'. They pace their drinks so they don't go over the point of no return.

Watch them in action. They don't consume three or four in a row.

My theory. They feel the drinks more than those that don't so they taper off.

I haven't been drunk in decades. In my younger years...in the military...I hit the hard stuff a few times, but after 4 or 5 stiff drinks, I usually wound up getting an upset stomach and had to rush to the boys room or outdoors to vomit. I really liked that stout German beer when I was in Germany, but pretty much gave up beer when I came back to the States....that US stuff has me spending more time at a urinal than at the party. Anymore, I like an occasional glass of wine with a good meal, and I take a nip of vodka or brandy in the evenings...which relaxes me such that I get a full nights sleep.

I learned from wholesale wine salesman friend, drink as much water as you drink liquor.Alcohol is a diuretic (makes you pee) and replacing that water helps, a lot. That may be what the guys with no hangovers do, drink a lot of water along with their cocktails.

I've only been drunk a few times, only had a hangover a couple times, and one really bad. My brothers have both had many bad hangovers. I'm told the worst hangover is in jail.

I heard that also, Steve. Altho I don't drink much, I always have a glass of water after a little crown and coke.

Got hung over in my youth
Now?
nada
sip a bit a glenmorangie of a cold evening
or an IPA on a hot summer day

but
coffee?
can't seem to get enough
and
never hung over on it...yet
gimme time and I'll find a way (I'm Irish...heh heh)

My capacity for alcohol is usually one drink. Sometimes less. You don't get hung over on that amount.
