Phantom:
Perhaps I should send this as a PM, but I have NOTHING to hide..
I have had both hips replaced.. The right one in August 2007 and the left one in December 2009..I am what you would call "A Real Hippy"....
I also had my left shoulder replaced in Oct. 2010.. Now that was way worse than a hip...
Let me tell Maureen that it isn't as bad as you think..Yes it is quite the operation, but recovery wasn't that long..
The good thing is NO MORE PAIN !!!!! Only 5 days in the hospital and then home..
She will have some lifelong restrictions, but not very many..
As far as recovery goes, physio is the best answer.. I had it for about 6 months after surgery.. Also walking is extremely important.. Every day she MUST walk to strengthen up the hip.. The physio will show her some special exercises that she will do daily to strenghten up the hip..
Staris are NOT a problem as they will show her how to go up and down stairs using only a cane..
Personally, I can't use crutches, (clumsy) so I went for a walker and then 2 canes, and then one cane, and then nothing unless I went walking for a distance....
I hope I helped some..... Like I said, no need to make this private as there isn't anything to be ashamed of...
Please wish Maureen a speedy recovery and there are hundreds of thousands of us that have joint replacements and we all are enjoying life to its fullest..
