All Gave Some, Some Gave All

I heard that the ceremony at Arlington will be live streamed this year.

I was given the following link if interested: www.dvidshub.net/webcast/36171 or maybe you can Google it to make sure I’m right. The Marine and Navy band begins at 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m.

If you are planning on going to the ceremony, I suggest getting there early to get a seat in the amphitheater. You will also need a “Real ID” to get through the gate.

I hope this link works. I usually go to the ceremony, but this year it’s impossible for me to make the trip.

I did not end up in Viet Nam as I had a college deferment. The war had ended when I graduated. Now as an adult my best friend did serve as a Marine officer. He joined the service when the war started as he already had completed college. Accordingly, he was trained as an officer and quickly shipped over to Viet Nam.

He is one of the finest people I have ever known. He is proud of his service, and he has no regrets about his time in Nam. Over the years I have developed a great respect for our soldiers who were in that war. I hope as Americans, we all continue to support and respect those who served in Viet Nam.

Being the youngest of my generation meant that I had cousins who fought in WWII. One was a fighter pilot whose aircraft carrier was featured in the 1944 documentary "The Fighting Lady".
In 1952 my older brother was drafted to fight in the Korean War. He came home safe. There was a lot of talk about war in my house but it was mostly over my head. Friends lost sons in Viet Nam.
