I'm impressed! I have an interest in steam engines (trains) and the Navy. I would never have found a link like this between the two. I'm really disappointed in myself.

My mama and my aunt in front of the engine of the train on which my grandfather was a signalman. Note the palm fronds lining the tracks…. S. California for sure. Probably around 1925

The O and W as I remember it and it ran by our house on Gold St. The rail yards and roundhouse. Another switch house and the over pass on Mitchell St. As kids, we would watch the trains go under us and wave at the engineer. And get a face full of soot.

The U.S. Army’s rail transportation system is a wreck, according to a recent U.S. government report.
"The Army depends on railroads to move personnel and equipment, especially heavy vehicles like tanks. But the tracks connecting Army installations are in poor repair, and the Army lacks sufficient railroad crews to transport units to ports for deployment overseas during a crisis." MORE
