Alternative to living alone?

After I sold my house 5 years ago I moved to a seniors apartment building back in my home town. I have a nice little one bedroom. Best move for me. Laundry facilities on site, a nice community room with activities, or just to hang and visit.
I am a bit of an introvert, so I can stay in my apartment when I do not feel like peopling, or go down and visit with friends.
I plan to stay as long as I am able.
Sounds like heaven to me.

The husband went in for a supposedly routine joint replacement. He came out of anesthesia with stage five/six dementia.

My aunt had level 2-3 dementia before her surgery, then came out of surgery much worst. The anesthesia did seriously effect the brain function in some way.
WOW! I never heard of this before and find it very unsettling because I'm supposed to have full anesthesia (not just mild sedation) for a procedure in less than 30 days. EEEK!!!

I did some reading on the topic. The danger is to people who already HAVE dementia. There was no correlation to people with no signs of dementia. My former MIL is around 90 years old and has had about a half dozen joint and back operations due to arthritis. She is still fine mentally.

Thank you for doing the research. I should have done that before responding — and normally would have — but I'd had a 3-1/2 year old here all day yesterday and by late afternoon was too spent to do much more than react to the posts.

I was in rehab, and nursing homes for a while. I thought about moving into a senior high rise. I was put on a list, only 248 people ahead of me. And I couldn't afford some of the "better" senior residences. Plus, I didn't really want to leave my home, even if it got crummy and run down.
