I agree and I believe most people who have been widowed or never married can relate to that. I still don't watch tv alone. If it's not on the internet, I don't look at it. I have (but rarely) eat in a restaurant alone. The few times I have, my eyes are glued to my phone. Forget traveling, unless I go with a friend. Restaurants, television, and traveling are best enjoyed when shared with other peoples company, and even nicer if shared with a loved one.

I never married until I was 66 yrs old, so I know what it's like not to have been married. I also never had kids. I know where you're coming from. Marriage and being single both have their advantages and disadvantages. I loved being married. Obviously some people don't, just look at the divorce rate. The grass isn't always greener.I've never been married and have no kids. Can anyone relate? I've been reading Kindle booksfor fun, but sometimes I feel like it would be nice to share my feelings and emotions with someone. Most important to me is that when I am in a group that I am not just observing or participating but that there is connection. I mean that others are reciprocating by speaking and sharing their issues or feelings also.
They say most guys don't share emotions. Do you agree? Do you thinkit is abnormal to be emotional as a guy?
This site is a good site to communicate thoughts and feelings. You might not agree with what everyone says, but this world would be pretty boring if we all thought alike. I also like to know what the other gender thinks. Unfortunately society has been unkind to the male gender, leading some to think that they can't be emotional. Emotions are part of everyone makeup. There's nothing wrong with a guy having and discussing emotions. If there's anything you ever want to get off of your chest, you should fell free to post it on this site and maybe that will help release some of your emotions.
Ditto. I HAVE a spouse and we are close, but we also like our separate time. When I was working and traveling like a fool, he was enjoying his time at home and overseeing home improvement projects. Now that he is working and I'm not, I have no issue with going to see a movie by myself that he would have no interest in. I make salads every day, but Wednesday is our "cheat" day so I sometimes have lunch out by myself.
In March 2022, shortly after Covid was behind us, I went on a Caribbean cruise by myself and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ate in the restaurants and went to all the entertainment venues. It was great people-watching and I finished a couple of books in my quiet time. We booked a Mexico cruise with another couple last year when he wasn't working. It left on March 28, and I went by myself with them and had a great time. I spent a couple of days in San Diego prior, went to the zoo and had dinner in Little Italy.
Good for you @Teacher Terry for continuing to get out there and experience life! We have limited time. We should continue to enjoy it while we can. My 63 year-old friend on the left just had open-heart surgery in November. That was a wake-up call for all of us.

I wish more guys in my area were like that. I went to a old car event a couple years ago, alone. My "friend" and I had words, he was someone I was friends with in my teens/early 20s, he has drastically changed. Pure Narcissist. I used to go with him to those events, but I'm getting used to being alone (not willingly, but...) so this older fellow sitting where I was, I tried a conversation with him, he got up and left after a few minutes! It's moments like that which I realize our world sucks now, and there's nothing we can do about it. So IDGAF. That's how I deal with it. I pretend like it's just me and the event.

That's encouraging to hear, @Teacher Terry, because I hope to go on one of those tours myself someday.
More often than not when I go out it's with a friend or one of my daughters, but I have absolutely no problem doing things alone and do so frequently. I often go to local broadcasts of the Met Opera, for example, and I always go alone. None of my friends are interested. Ditto for the films shown by the local avant garde cinema society.
After a 20-year marriage and chasing around after three kids, catering to their schedules, I now relish my autonomy. That said, I can certainly understand people who prefer to share movies, meals, and so on, with someone.

My ex once said to a group of people in a church: When you're single you think: Oooooooh I wish I were married and then you're married and you're like: ooooooooh I wish I were single. Nobody thought it was funny, but I was laughing like a hyena. So true.

I envy you both. I have no problem going alone to a movie, shopping, visiting a museum, and those sorts of things . If I'm in the right frame of mind, I can occasionally drop into a fast food place and have something like tacos and a soda (alone). It's not fun, but it's "okay." But many times over the years, I've tried sit down restaurants alone where a waiter brings a menu and I order a full meal and every time it has been a miserable experience. Since it's never necessary (alone) I just wait for a time when someone is with me.

Yes, and I do, thanks for the reminder. I go with someone or others to some things, and other things I do alone to make each experience enjoyable in my comfort zone.
