Amazon Prime Delivery Trucks

So an Amazon truck pulled up yesterday to drop off goodies and I saw they use Mercedes trucks. This in light of them not paying taxes on billions of revenue. I guess if you can get away with it why not?
 

Because the Mercedes Sprinter van is literally only $1K more than the Ford Transit van, comes with more safety equipment, and has better reliability. Mercedes and all mfgs offer substantial discounts on fleet purchases.

Amazon is doing a gradual roll-out of their in-house delivery system. They'll continue to use independent contractors, just not such a high percentage of them as before.
 

The final Amz delivery leg to me is via USPS and they STINK. They leave the packages at other people's houses on a different road; one time they left a box across the road from me in a gravel pit that doesn't even have a residence or address; they've left cardboard boxes out in heavy rain with no plastic bag; last week they said they couldn't get to my mailbox or door (there was no snow) so they never delivered it until the next day after I called Amz and complained (calling my local post office is a complete waste of time).

I asked Amz (I've already done this several times) would they PLEASE stop using USPS and switch to UPS or whatever. They said they would, so we'll see.

And as was already stated, the Mercedes Sprinter chassis has been used on mid-duty trucks for decades. I'm sure Amazon shopped the best deal for whatever chassis their trucks are built on. Many RV builders in the USA are also using the Sprinter Chassis.

Mercedes, which opened a plant in North Charleston, S.C., started producing Amazon-branded vans for the online retailer’s Delivery Service Partner program, which enables small businesses to lease vans for deliveries through third-party fleet management companies.

Amazon is assisting small businesses across the U.S. by providing discounted vehicles, fuel, insurance, uniforms and access to delivery technology, the Seattle-based company said in June.
 
In Mexico we saw Mercedes army trucks. Mercedes is big in the truck business. In Europe you will also see Mercedes taxis.

So the majority of the money goes to...…….. improving Amazon.
 
Many people over here complain about Amazon not paying taxes.

In fact, and I'm sure it's the same in the US, they pay the same taxes as you, me and everybody else, the pay what the tax authorises say they must pay, otherwise they would be prosecuted.

If this amount should be more, don't blame Amazon. No one pays more than they need to. Blame the politicians who make the tax laws, many of whom, dare I suggest, are looking for big business directorships when they to supplement the meagre pensions they will get!
 
Amazon don't have their own domestic delivery trucks here . Hermes, UPS.. or any number of independents deliver Amazon parcels, including our Postman, from Royal Mail
 
I rarely shop on line, but when I do I use Amazon. I've never had a delivery problem. Amazon uses US post office for the small deliveries like DVD's, and such.

I read that linked article and some of it doesn't make sense.

I'm not an accountant or IRS agent, but I've been self-employed for 34 years and, simply put, money that you pump back into your business to expand or improve it is never taxed. It can't be; you no longer have it, it's gone. They only tax you on income you didn't spend.

Otherwise, businesses would have a very difficult time improving or expanding; they wouldn't have the money to do it.

Everyone is correct. Amazon uses USPS and 3rd party to make deliveries. I'm increasingly using Amazon and you never know who is going to pull into the driveway.
 
I doubt that Amazon own any trucks at all, if they
have a fleet it will be rented!

Most likely they have contracted small companies
or owner drivers on condition that they have the
Amazon name/logo painted on their vehicle.

That happens here, 'though not with Amazon as
far as I know.

A couple of years ago a courier company went
bust and all the drivers were contract owners
they all complained that their vans had the name
of a defunct company and that they couldn't paint
them as it cost too much.

Here also. I get all my Amazon deliveries from USPS. I think they are amazing, always within that 2-day window. The trucks are the same mail trucks that deliver everything else.
 
I have an Amazon distribution center in the area, so I get independent drivers delivering packages from there .... sometimes right to my door, and sometimes to the mail room in the Admin. office of our apartment complex.

I'm just glad that I have their app on my phone that alerts me as to when/ where package is coming and when it's delivered. Without that, I would be playing a guessing game sometimes.
 
I no longer support Amazon for the income tax thing. It's wrong for a major corporation to make $11 million in profits and pay $0. in taxes. They'll never get my business again.

I was part of a for contract service (not Amazon) and it is part of the contract to either paint your vehicle or display their logo..Once you leave the contract services, you can do whatever to your vehicle..

Amazon absolutely DOES pay income tax. From the Forbes article...

"First, a quick look at Amazon’s financial statements shows it does pay taxes. In 2017, Amazon paid close to $1 billion in income tax. In 2018, the amount jumped to $1.18 billion, accounting for local, state, and international taxes."

They don't pay taxes on the money reinvested into their business, which is established by the tax code of the USA and apparently is the same for any other business.

Can't knock it as I have long owned the stock but Mercedes? Maybe it is just the image but I don't want then to change a thing as long as the stock continues to make me happy.
