Message left on my home phone from Amazon Prime that stated $199.99 would be retro withdrawn from my banking account. The caller left a number to speak to an Amazon Customer Services in addition to stopping all of my subscriptions.

First of all any reputable business would not call and leave a voicemail about an account I might have. Second, the message generated a fearful and hasty response on my part to act fast without thinking the matter through, $199.99 is a lot of money to lose.

I am older gentleman who may be a prime target for money / property scams

The other thing is they called my landline where if anybody of relevant importance to me would call my cell phone.
 

I got a call this week about a supposedly package I had ordered from Amazon. I didn't answer it and they left a message saying something about I needed to call them so they could release the package I had ordered so it could be delivered. Well, I hadn't ordered anything from Amazon so I just turned around and blocked their number. Then out of curiosity, I did a search online for the number and just as I suspected it was a robocall scam.
 
Anything online these days is subject to the whim of the hackers. They make money at it or they wouldn't continue to do it.

I now have set my phone to only answer contacts on my cell phone. I don't have a landline.

Check your cell phone settings for a 'do not disturb' setting.

I still get the numbers that call however shown as unanswered. Then I look them up to see where the calls originated from.

They are pretty clever. They phone from another city that has the same area code but I recognize it as it comes through as a long distance call with a 1 in front of the area code and the number.

Resist any effort to answer the call or dial it later. That way they know they have a 'live' number.

They use robot calling.
