Amazon’s cloud customers will need to wait several more months before the US tech company can repair war-damaged data centers and restore normal operations in the Middle East. The announcement comes two months after Iranian drone strikes targeted three Amazon data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain—meaning that full recovery from the cloud disruption could take nearly half a year in all.

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) dashboard posted an April 30 update describing how its UAE and Bahrain cloud regions “suffered damage as a result of the conflict in the Middle East” and are unable to support customer applications. The update also said that “relevant billing operations are currently suspended while we restore normal operations” in a process that “is expected to take several months.”

I quit buying from Amazon due to it's so hard to find a "supplier" who has the items in the US ready to ship.
At least for the last 5 items I was going to buy.
I began to understand the "3 day shipping" to really mean -
once it maneuvers it's way through several customs checks and actually gets into the US to be shipped.
No more for me.

Amazon has taken a dive since it's beginnings, as often happens when an up and comer captures it's market share and it's only way to keep increasing profits is to charge for services that were once just part of the service and decrease the quality of service. I still use Amazon a bit when it's he only supplier I can find for a specific item. Or on those rare occasions where it happens to be the lowest price.

It's the battleground of the future. Today war mongers talk about hitting power stations and bridges, in the future the information highway will be a prime target. We're already seeing it begin in Europe with some ocean cables being cut. There will come a time when data centers are going to need some serious defense systems. I know it sounds mad right now, but it will come in our new world of AI.

A deluge of EMP weapons will be able to cut off all communication, our vehicles, our lights and so on. Scary stuff - but fascinating.
