America spends more on outside Xmas lighting than some small countries spend in a year!

According to an NPR report countries like Ethiopia and Somalia spend less on electricity in a year. The mania for outdoor holiday lights only seems to be getting greater each year so more countries will probably be added to the list. Should we care? Probably. Do we, nope...

Maybe just a candle would do...

This is the first year since the kids were little that I did not put up outside lights. I had neighbors, who I never speak to, stop and ask if I was OK and if I needed any help with decorating. These people are amazing. Snooty all year until now.

Have a neighbor who put up a lot of single color bulbs over various bushes and trees etc leaving them up all year sometimes lighting them up on other occasions. They only thing they hook up now are things like a sled or reindeer.

There was an entire street back east (both sides) that turned outdoor Xmas lights into a virtual contest. We are talking several hundred thousand lights. Lit the whole street up almost like daytime. Drew rubber necks from all over no. Va. Then slowly they began to disappear.

Asked a few why. Several hundred $$ per month electric bills killed the lights. Merry Christmas folks.

Only a few people do outside lights in my village ( when I was a child nobody in Britain did ) like everything else we get things travelling slowly here from across the pond.Like Coca Cola , KFC, and rap ( not guns as yet.)
However, most people do put lights on the indoor tree, including me.:)
