American airstrikes on Venezuela, with Chinooks possibly flying in US military personnel.

I’m all in favor of eliminating the drug trade, protecting freedom of religion, peace, etc…but I’m beginning to see something a bit more sinister at work.

IMO the United States needs to focus more on resolving its own issues and leave the rest of the world to sort out theirs.
I think it's great that he bombs ISIS in Nigeria and maybe Sudan. Finally someone who cares 1 bit about all these people murdered. But Venezuela? Why even?

I’ve been wondering about the impact on the drug trade.

I’m out of touch, does anyone know if there is now a shortage of street drugs or an increased cost due to the recent efforts to restrict the flow of drugs.

I’m not opposed to efforts that limit supply but I do believe that the real key is to work on limiting demand.

Reducing demand seemed to have a big impact on cigarette smoking but I’m not sure how you would approach changing demand for something that is largely illegal.

We have very little reliable information about why we are there and not enough to satisfy my understanding. Oil would be a good guess.
President Trump and other news media is saying that Maduro had already previously been indicted by the US and then there is the people Venezuela has released and drug influx into the United States.🤔

Here’s what the indictment says

The indictment accuses Maduro of leading a “a corrupt, illegitimate government that, for decades, has leveraged government power to protect and promote illegal activity, including drug trafficking.” It alleges that the drug trafficking efforts “enriched and entrenched Venezuela’s political and military elite.”

U.S. authorities allege that Maduro partnered with “some of the most violent and prolific drug traffickers and narco-terrorists in the world” to bring tons of cocaine into the U.S., according to the indictment.

I would agree if what the rest of the world does didn't affect the United States. Unfortunately what some of the rest of the world does can and has affected the United States of America.

I don't believe that world domination is what is taking place and I pray that I am wrong!

Lilac, those drugs are being imported from many other countries also. So should we fly around bombing the whole world?
We need to clean up our own back yard to begin with which is South America, Central America & Mexico that are killing people in this country with illegal drugs sent here.

Venezuela is a main transit route for the other drug producing countries. One of them is Colombia, who is the world's largest producer of cocaine, to get their drugs sent around the world.

They do and there still will be junkies creating a demand that will lead to alternate smuggling routes, sources, drugs, substances etc.

But south of the border where a huge chunk of the supply comes from. Cut enough supply maybe some junkies will be steered into rehab, quit etc. The problem including the suppliers are too big to be ignored. The problem with drug trade it attracts too many violent and/or corrupt people which creates problems in addition to an intoxicated populace.

In the end the junky has to want to stop using. As do the criminals have to want to leave the trade/culture. Sometimes 'want' has to be incentivized.
