American Automobile Association

I just checked the So Cal AAA website - the policy is up to four service calls per year. Curious as to why a national organization would have such different regional policies, I checked the Northway, NY office site. Same policy. Up to four service calls per year.

I only know what happened to my mom. She was at my grandma's house and couldn't get her car started. She called AAA and they told her that she had already used her service call for the year.

CAA cracked down on drivers who had too many calls because they were failing to maintain their cars. Boost needed because of ancient battery, no snow tires, etc.

I don’t know if we have other service providers in Canada, but I think it’s worth the money for a new driver especially if they have an older vehicle.

Yes the AA here will only attend twice a year I believe, for reported flat batteries

They were good, back in the day.
But most auto insurances now offer roadside assistance
Kinda takes away the draw for AAA
From the 90s forward cars have been much more reliable. Mechanically disabled cars in freeway lanes or the shoulder of a roadway are a rarity these days. I'd wager AAA is mostly called for flats and dead batteries and tows are largely for accidents.

I still have AAA roadside assistance because I buy my homeowner and auto insurance through them.

Just heard of a Canadian who was notified that his CAA membership is now free since he’s been a member for 50 years. He didn’t even know about this special reward.

I still have not received the promised documentation (post #9) stating that I am a 50 year member and do not have to pay dues. Sent another email to AAA last week. Still waiting for an answer.

I've always wondered if the Roadside Assistance that comes as a standard feature of my GEICO insurance coverage had any value and this morning I found out.

I had an appointment to take my vehicle into the local repair shop to have a new battery installed and when I went to start it the battery was dead.

I called the GEICO number. The operator put my request for a jumpstart out for bids and within seconds got a hit. The estimate for service was a standard response of one hour but the tow company called me and said they would be there in 10 minutes. The young fellow jumped the car with his handheld device and I was on my way within 20 minutes of my call. No charge, no paperwork just a snapshot of my license plate number with the technician's telephone.

I was amazed and relieved at the quality of the service it was much more than I expected.
