American Bandstand & Soul Train

Hi Sassycakes...I loved American Bandstand.. We were in New Jersey at that time....Me and my Cousin couldn't wait
to get home and watch American Bandstand...We also would dance to the songs....LOL....
I think the show started at 4our o'clock...in our area....My Cousin's Dad had all of the records at the time and
we would play the songs that were on American Band stand at the time....I can't remember some of the names...
It's been a long long time....

My sister and I would dance during the entire school. Girls that went to Catholic school had to wear a sweater over their Uniform so no one would know what school they went to. A lot of my neighborhood kids would go to the show.I never did though. Many years later a friend of my husband knew Frankie Avalon after he performed in "Grease" which was my daughters favorite movie. So my Husbands friend invited my Husband and my daughter to have lunch with Frankie. My daughter was thrilled. Bobby Rydell even married a girl in my sister's class in High School.

The same autumn that ABS started, my city began a TV dance show hosted by a DJ who was wildly popular on a local top 40 AM radio program. We didn't need Clark and his Philly kids; we had our own local kids dancing to the tunes. The show even put out a top 50 list every week you could pick up in local record stores. Like Clark's ABS, the local show was also able to attract the big hit makers of the the day.

Unfortunately, the local dance show show shut down around '63 because the host wanted to retire. Could stand corrected but I think the station picked up ABS, but I didn't care one way or another having reached age 19 at not really interested in teenage dance shows by that time.
