American Politics

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
It's broken. People who have little interest no longer even know the issues. TV ads are those folks information. Republicans, Democrats and Independent all are managed by and large by folks who are in it for what it can bring them. Power, money probably are the main motivators but I am sure there are other factors as well.

Unless you are a news junkies and digest all the nuances of Congress and the White house you are always only hoping things work out.

I boil my place in this down to one thing, what is best for me, my extended family and friends. I vote that way. So, one might ask why am I voting for Democrats? Simple! I value the word "society" and what it embodies. Here in America we proclaim to "take care of our own". That concept has been perverted over the years to mean much less than it once did. I maintain that we stand only as tall as our weakest. We can't all work, hell some of us can't feed ourselves. I cannot support any movement by any party that makes life impossible for ANY of us.

Ok, now others will come in and rant about how wrong I am but when the dust clears, when the next election is here, I will STILL vote that way. Like or not, win or lose, it's my right and I will exercise it..

This man has written a book or two and was a guest on the CoasttoCoastAM radio show I heard the other night. He said that in his own hometown that he grew up in, things were so different today than years ago. The affluent folks were on one side of the street, and the poorer people were on the other, regardless of race, just their income inequality separated them in all aspects of life, and one was not really even aware of the realities of the other. He spoke about how thirty or forty years ago, people had more hope for the American Dream, there were some jobs still in the US and the wages weren't stagnant for the poor as they are now. Even the hard workers can't get anywhere near the American Dream due to low wages and less opportunity. He mentioned class warfare and how the children needed to be helped to succeed for not only theirs, but for everyone's future. Here is a video where he's interviewed. http://robertdputnam.com/about-our-kids/our-kids-in-the-news/

SB, so many go happily on their way not knowing (or caring?) about the plight of those one "the other side of the street". I feel so bad about what we have allowed to happen.

Rick Perry in a primary debate in 2008:

"But if you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they’ve been brought there by no fault of their own,
I don’t think you have a heart."

This statement really impressed me, but the reaction from the audience made it clear he was doomed as a candidate. (I know he said some stupid things later, but up to that point I believe he was a viable candidate.)

If the truth were known, we would probably find out that the Real Power in this nation resides in the hands of less than .1% of the population...the ultra wealthy, and their Army of Lobbyists. They own most of the politicians on Both sides of the aisle, and if one investigates the voting records of these politicians, they would find that most of the legislation passed substantially favors this "Oligarchy". The vast majority of people base their votes on the nonsense spouted by venues such as Fox or MSNBC, and the constant bombardment of Attack Ads that explode on the TV as election time approaches.

The increasing income inequality that is occurring should be proof enough that this Oligarchy is winning.

I think the truth of your statement is pretty well known to a lot among Liberals. The rest of the electorate are certainly hearing about the 1 percenters, but the Republicans like the status quo and a lot of less political people haven't appreciated the implications. Hillary I'm sure will follow Elizabeth Warren's lead and make it an important issue in the upcoming election.

Bottom line. We are nothing more than a large tool to generate the energy for the 1-2% to harvest the fruits of. Through our efforts they prosper. Like days of slavery we are left with enough to sustain life and thus their ability to continue their plundering. When we are too old or ill to continue generating income for their booty, they do their best to eliminate us through deprivation of our meager incomes or our healthcare.

Well... that about sums it up... or at least the way they would like it to be..

History shows that nations prosper when there is a strong Middle Class. When the general population becomes dependent upon the crumbs falling from the rich mans table, things go downhill rapidly. Up until about the end of the 20th century, people were able to plan and save for their retirements, but in recent years, the ability for retirees to build up reserves has plummeted. Defined pensions from companies are becoming a rarity, and if the government starts fooling around with Social Security, millions of retirees will be stressed to their limits. There are even those in Washington who want to play games with IRA's that many of today's retirees built up over 20 or 30 years. If things continue the way they are going, it won't be many more years before it may be necessary to park some truckloads of Tar and Feathers around the US Capital.
