American Teens on Way to Syria to Join ISIS, Get Stopped by FBI and Returned Home

Kids are idealists and naturally want to rebel. Unfortunately, they don't have the foresight to think things through.

Exactly. That's why religions and other cults, protestors for various causes, extremists of one kind or another always try to indoctrinate the young. You see a lot more protests on college campuses than you see at retirement homes.

Yeah... who has time for that stuff when we have our bowel function to worry about?

I can't understand these kids..the girls will be divvied out as ''Wives of Isis''..they won't let them ever come back..

The young men will have a gun put in their hands, with no experience of warfare..and be shot dead!!

Exactly although I think joining a serial killer cult like ISIS is a big leap from protesting, getting a tattoo or piercing, smoking cigarettes etc. I remember in the 1970s listen to people boast they knew people that hung with the Manson crew for a while in California-unsolicited. I think some kids simply want to shock which for them is easy because of those pesky things called detail and consequences.

I must ask how pathetic their existence must be to join a cult like this

This is not always the case. Here in the UK one of the young men [aged 19/20] did very well at school, got excellent A levels and was accepted by Surrey University. His home life was good too, he had hard working parents who managed to send him to private schools before that time. He told his parents he was off to Uni, but instaead went abroad to join IS.They had no idea and were devastated when they found out.

No matter the background I think many young people will do anything to differentiate themselves from their current peer group. Distinction gets more priority than success. Joining ISIS is a big look at me.
