Americans don't do well in roundabouts. Yes or no? Do you like 'em?

Roundabouts, we have them, probably about 40 of them in our hometown. We even have golf cart roundabouts.

I like them as they eliminate the stop signs and keep the traffic moving. Only problem is when we get a lot of snowbirds coming in the winter and they are not familiar how to navigate thru them. Many collisions in the roundabouts.

I also never heard anyone refer to them as rotaries but we are in Florida and much of the rest of the country think differently than we do.

My father lived in The Villages for 20 years. (His name is Tom, too.) When we first flew out to visit from Nevada I must admit my first traffic circle threw me, and I pulled right in. Luckily, I didn't get in an accident.

I can imagine it's pretty frustrating for the locals.

I love roundabouts and we’re in the process of gettin two new double lanes ones to facilitate traffic on and off the freeway. It’s going to be wonderful but so far the first one you see in this video mock up is impeded by temporary stop signs at each entry point. Ugh.

The entry point at the beginning is the one we most often use because the back up to the Bay Bridge often prevents our taking the next exit. Now that the frontage road is back in play we can take an ether second exit off the roundabout to get to the overpass for our would-be exit by way of the frontage road. Score!

Now if they would just finish it up and get rid of the extra stop signs!

In my early driving days some 60 years ago now I occasionally had to drive in London England and remember my introduction to the two lane roundabout when entering from the north but also remember when some of the stop signs were removed and just a big dot painted in the middle of some intersections and it became roundabout.... or is my memory playing tricks?


Meanwhile here in Canada more and more' traffic circles' are being put in and most of our drivers are getting to know how to use them, its so much better than sitting and waiting for the light to change when the intersection is empty.

I don't know where you are, but I've never heard them called rotaries. Nope. Not until reading your post. We have a lot of them in our area, and they're great at keeping the traffic moving.

They've always been "rotaries" where I live. The worst is one that feeds into and off from a major interstate which I need to travel at least once a day when working otherwise alternative routes would add 20+ minutes to my travel time. So many people I know from my home town have had accidents there. It's infamous.. I haven't but, I'm super careful. When I'm not in a hurry I get to take the longer and safer alternate route which is a beautiful ride through suburbia. Hey, I'm still alive.

there's 2 roundabouts in the next road to mine road alone ..lol.... ...in the UK there are more than 25,000 roundabouts... there's more than 42,000 in France , which holds the record for having the most r/a's in the world... 38,000 in Spain... ... approx 8,000 in Australia, Italy 19,000 ....

In the US there are almost 8000. Oh well. As long as they are available near me I’ll be satisfied.

When I lived in New England, there were plenty of roundabouts, the rules of how to use them were simple, and everyone cooperated. I like them much better than a 4-way stop.

Several drivers here have problems with the 2 roundabouts we have in my area. They hesitate and only a few use signals. I would hate to think what they would do if the roundabouts had 2 lanes.
