Americans - What do you prefer your country to be called ?

Sometimes it is hard to be with people as they process their having been wrong.
 
Does the U.S. people have a nickname? During the 3rd Reich and after WW2 the Germans who emigrated in the U.S. were called "Krauts" as far as I know. It was a little derogative, but hit the nail on the head since many of them loved "Sauerkraut". Sauerkraut, a German invention nobody needs :ROFLMAO:. No, just kidding, I love it.
 
I refer to my country as America and myself as an American. In any of my international travels, nobody ever had any confusion about what I was referring to.

During a South Pacific trip some 10-12 year old kids overheard DH & me talking and said, "Oh, they're Yanks!" We thought that was adorable! Generally people recognize our accents and ask if we're Americans.

Oh how annoying to have to wait when you're in pain. I hope they don't make you wait much longer. Lovely to see you tho'... I hope the family are well.

2025 has been a rough year for me... divorce, car accident, plastic surgery... lots of bad stuff, so hopefully 2026 will bring much better things for us both !:love::D

That's true within the US, not necessarily beyond our borders. These kids realized we and our traveling companions were Americans and therefore called us Yanks.

Of the four of us, I was the only one from the Northeast. All others had lived their entire lives in the Los Angeles area.

Seriously, I've never really thought about it. The U.S, the USA, America it's all good. I think or hope that everybody knows what either of them means. 👍🇺🇸
