America's Doomsday Plan Doesn't Include Us!

So in the event of a widespread catastrophic event, we regular citizens are on our own. Of course I realize that mobilizing and protecting hundreds of millions during a (say) nuclear attack is just not possible. According to the documentary America's Doomsday Plan (Discovery+), the doomsday plan is in place only the protection of the president, military and other high level government officials, so as to keep government functioning. Their survival depends on "an elaborate, complex network of bunkers, bases and a tricked out airplanes." At least 25 emergency bunkers are located across DC ready to accommodate at a moments notice. Plan B is an air force base in Nebraska that houses 4 Doomsday planes, described as being flying command centers...part Pentagon, part White House. They are touted to be able to withstand a nuclear blast but 3 were disabled by a a tornado, go figure. :unsure: I didn't see a trailer for the program but found this.

And if it doesn't include us, just who are they going to govern?
 
@seadoug ...I guess they'll be trying to govern each other! I'd like to be a fly on the wall for that one. :LOL:
@jujube We're so close to New York City, a sure target, I probably wouldn't have time to put my head, let alone entire body, anywhere.
@Alligatorob I'm with you on that one. Would are young people even be equipped to survive such a catastrophe?

I think technically the nuclear powers have signed treaties to NOT attack each others cities, but sadly with the war in Ukraine we've seen how well Russia abides by those.
 
In the event of a nuclear war, the only survivors are going to be the cockroaches. And probably the ants, LOL.

I remember all the articles about our Doomsday Plans back during the Cold War. I don't see that anything has really changed as far as objectives, just technological advancements. What's there to get excited about?

Countries don't start off war by bombing cities. First are the military targets, which is why a functional, nuclear Navy is so essential to defense/offense, because land defenses have limited effectiveness.

Bombing cities only starts when a war of attrition begins. But you don't start off a war that way.
 
I'd be hopeful to be at the ground zero.

Imagine this scenario. Stevens King's "The Stand" happens, but without good/evil fight. You have 3-5 years before all canned food is now inedible. You "might" have extra time if you find some major preppers home.

Then you have time to learn, how to grow crops, canning, picking, cooking, plowing, finding horses, cattle to use as plow animals, learn to butcher your own meat.

It's possible to convert trailers to electrical, from diesel to keep food frozen, lots of trial and (urp!) error also. Making your own clothing, the stores will rot and mold away.

No thanks, vaporize me, I'm not up to the struggle.
 
I don't even want to think about the state of the country if WW3 does happen. Looting, killing and fighting for food and water etc. And everyone will have guns. Not to mention radiation sickness and no functioning hospitals. Lord have mercy. šŸ˜± Maybe being in ground zero is better! Surviving is a slow death. I want to find out it happened in the afterlife!
 
If there is a Nuclear Event, the country afterwards, will
probably be like a remake of a "Mad Max" film, if there
are enough survivors, then the military won't matter,
they will be overwhelmed my numbers and you all have
guns in America.

I believe it. But if we're doomed, than that's it for me and the cats. If I can't live, then I can't.
