I never heard the early radio shows but I did watch and enjoy the Amos and Andy television series.
It’s become sort of a lightening rod due to some of the stereotypes and links back to the old minstrel shows but it was also a groundbreaking television program with the first all black cast.
Amos and Andy helped many black actors to showcase their talents and open doors.
IMO it’s like so many controversial things from the past, we need to accept them in the context of the times and move on.
I really enjoyed the "Amos 'n' Andy" TV show. The long running radio show was voiced by white actors, but when written for TV, black actors were cast, with rare appearances by white actors.
There is an old threaad about Amos and Andy and their origins, on the board, but anyway the original Amos n Andy were white guys ..
they lived in the same apartment building in Chicago as my mother back in the 40’s when doing their radio show..
She talked about them to family when she was still alive. ..enjoyed them as neighbors.
