background... of an age that i went to college during late 60-70s. graduated with a BS in Elementary Education and absolutely ZERO experience with anything illegal... except to beer before i was of legal age. literally NO experience with pot... except knowing what it smells like. or at least i thought??

a week or so ago, had an almost close encounter with a BIG groundhog... in my apartment complex. last week had actual encounter with a squirrel... could have been rabid, right? have had a few times where i definitely smelled a skunk!! i mentioned the groundhog at the office and maintenance took care of the squirrel problem. i mentioned the skunk thing.

then over past few days... i learned... some variety of pot smells like a SKUNK when smoked! "boy, was my face red!" i remember that phrase from some teen magazine where teens sent in anecdotes about embarrassing times.

i'm pleading ignorance! NJ has voted for legal recreational pot. i have no desire to smoke it, but hoping to become familiar with culinary uses. have lingering problems from an arm fracture... FOUR years ago tomorrow. limited use of shoulder/arm/hand and totally wrecked sleep patterns. hoping for good cookie/muffin recipes to ease things.

Yes, some brands smell more skunky than others. My younger son used to remark about the sometimes 'skunk' smell in the sunroom and I could always pass it off by saying "oh...I guess we had one (skunk) wandering in the backyard last night". Now that he knows we smoke you would think that the remark about the 'skunk' smell would clue him in. Well, not always.

Well, for me, pot doesn't really help with pain but maybe medical pot with the CBD oil might help. You won't know unless you try it.

I've never had any skunky pot or any that smells like it. At this point I would not be smoking any because of some lung problems but would put it in some brownies. :D 🌻
i smoked for a LONG time. woke up one morning with NO sight in my left eye. a retinal occlusion. dr said high bp and cholesterol could have been contributing factor... that could be controlled by diet and meds. said one thing for sure... no more cigarettes. when i thought that same thing could happen in the other eye... quitting was easy! did regain a lot of vision... compared to NONE that morning, but i could not function with that limited eye-sight.

If you want to eat it you need to bind it first to a fat like butter or some type oil. Canna butter or canna coconut oil are the easiest to make. Most use 1 pound of butter to one ounce of marijuana. This same ratio can be used for coconut oil but you might need to experiment with this. If you aren’t used to using then you may want to only use 1/4 ounce ( 7 grams ) per pound. Simmer butter on low heat for at least one hour or on ‘warm only ‘ in a slow cooker for 6 to 8 hours. The smaller the amount, the less time needed.

While still warm, strain with cheesecloth. Some people throw the used cannabis away but some use it in other recipes.

The main thing to remember when eating marijuana is that the results from taking THC is drastically slowed down. It can take anywhere from 1/2 an hour to a couple of hours for it to reach your blood stream so EXTREME caution should be used, especially the first time trying it.
Make sure you don’t need to drive anywhere, use any dangerous tools or do anything too involved since you don’t know how you’ll feel.

Also, different strains have different potencies which is something to keep in mind. Indica strains are usually used for treating body pain. Sativa strains can be a bit trippy, especially to a new user. Marijuana strain choice is an important consideration.

NOTE: It’s best err on the side of ‘less is best’ when experimenting with marijuana, especially if taken orally. Good luck.

You might be best off making a diluted tea first to try it out.

i feel like you just scared me straight!!

A buddy talked me into smoking on the job. If you have a job that sometimes could just drag by, wait till you've smoked. That last hour on the job was the worst 30 hours of my life-the clock never moved. Never do that again.
BTW, while stoned, I did figure out the meaning of life, it's Stan Laurel. You had to be there.
