And so...the "recession" begins

China is tremendously dependent on the US market to sustain its current system. No other comes close, and that's exactly why they are in such a panic. They just can't afford to lose 1/5 or more of their export markets.

I'm puzzled at the rush to defend and promote Communism here.

I am not puzzled at all, dilettante. Communists will always rush to defend and promote Communism.
But I am very saddened.

From Wiki:

[The American Heritage Dictionary gives the definition of McCarthyism as: 1. The political practice of publicizing accusations of disloyalty or subversion with insufficient regard to evidence; and 2. The use of methods of investigation and accusation regarded as unfair, in order to suppress opposition.]

My plan is to die with very little money in the bank. I would rather give it away now than hang onto every penny we saved for our old age. My estate will be the family home that will pass to my two children, or if I should survive longer than either of them, to their children.

When my mother passed away, my brother and I dealt with the financial institutions where she had money. With one bank in particular, we were told how much we would be receiving, which was more than we had anticipated. When we were informed, my brother and I slowly turned our heads toward each other, both with an expression of sadness on our faces, both wondering why she hadn’t spent it on herself and enjoyed here own hard earned money.

I would encourage everyone to spend or get rid of it in whatever way they feel fit before they die.

:) The whole thing is a joke, so not that it really matters, and not that I'm disputing your post, since you apparently saw a video of a man wearing a California hat, as you provided a still shot.

I thought recent posts are about a video that had been posted in this thread - but I went through every page and can't find it, or missed it, so then I went to youtube and found this video which looks like the same man as the one in your post, but he's not wearing a hat. We don't know if he's from Michigan or California. I just hope he's not from Texas.

And here's the same video or similar (different music) on TikTok

Creating an assumption that makes little sense often causes puzzlement in the person making the assumption. In essence, he creates his own confusion.

I would agree, and add that I would list it under the category of Baiting. It implies people must be aligned with some ideology simply because they’re analysing China in a way that isn't wholly condemnatory. It also subtly implies that disagreement is the same as sympathy toward China's ideology.

It's not surprising that many comments here just fall flat on its face then drift away in the wind. I think many can see straight through it for what it is.

Don’t think we’ll see him at the new Apple facility in Houston.

I like what Buffet said just a few weeks ago, "China needs the U.S. more than the U.S. needs China." I believe that for the most part, Warren is straight on.

the result of all this chaos is we will pay more for likely inferior products along with higher interest rates hurting us .

each country excels at producing certain world class goods better and cheaper then everyone else and we benefit from that as consumers hurts us.

artificially trying to prop up more costly or inferior products and force them on us benefits no one.

there are major corporations making products in best in the world cnc factories in all countries including china .

not everything is cheap junk . most of the quality stuff we can’t duplicate here between costs and epa restrictions

i worked in the factory automation business . china has loads of state of the art CNC Machined factories turning out world class products.

this is why trump announced iphones , computers , electronics will be exempt .

I don't actually know which country needs the other more, and I don't really care. I know that as a consumer, especially when it comes to electronics, I need both countries. And I buy a lot of stuff made in China, because it's the best and the cheapest. It's in my best interest. I am a consumer.

exactly .

we are a global market place today .
remember , when other countries levy tariffs on our goods they are charging their own people those tariffs .

our manufacturers have for the most part had record profits despite those tariffs over seas .

all throwing tariffs on their stuff here does is cost americans more .

we only buy foreign products for one reason .

they represent to us the best value for our hard earned dollars .

you can’t artificially try to prop up goods that are more costly to make. and the same or less quality .

most goods we are years away from being able to build here and some we never can

I believe that this whole issue will gradually fizzle out to some very low and manageable tariffs for any country that steps forward for some type of negotiation.

I’m afraid that the real losers will be the folks that jumped to make major purchases or stockpile goods and those that rushed to exit the market after the initial drops.

We’ll see.

the problem is none of us win and this took a healthy economy , good stock market , low unemployment and is destroying it.

we almost had a melt drown in the treasury markets last week . that is when the tariffs were pulled back .

there was almost a domino effect as the world turned sour on our debt

I hear you but I believe that cooler heads will prevail before significant damage is done to the economy.

It will take some creative word smithing to find an off-ramp that puts a positive spin on it as the administration backs down or changes direction but I believe we’ll be ok.

I’m not sure how long it will be before the next jolt of some type disrupts our lives but I am sure that there will be several over the next few years.

i agree , this situation isn’t sustainable, but my thing is it should never have happened in the first place .

the global economies were fine as it was and american manufacturers were seeing record profits over seas
