Animal Facts - the Curious & the Interesting...

“A minute twist can change the angle of the wing and influence the flight direction, allowing the hummingbird to change direction instantly no matter which way the wing is stroking. This type of flight control is more closely associated with insects such as dragonflies than with birds and is a unique adaptation the hummingbird has harnessed for efficient flight.”

This makes me think of two jokes I heard when I taught middle school:

#1. Q - What did the elephant say to the naked guy?
A - Cute but how do you drink with it?

#2. Part 1
Q - Why do ducks have flat feet?
A - From stamping out forest fires.
Part 2
Q - Why do elephants have flat feet?
A - From stamping out burning ducks.

The "horns" on a great horned owl...🦉
aren't really horns.
They are actually feathers that stick up from the owls head.
These feathers are called plumicorns.

Sharks are amazing creatures. I've caught a lot of them, biggest was a 12 ft tiger, when I was about 13 years old, I will never forget that. When I was young we always killed sharks, now I know how foolish that was. When I hook one now adays I try to break it off quickly. If I do get it to the boat I always cut the line to release. Hooks don't last a long time in a shark's mouth, that is the lowest impact thing to do.

We kill about 100,000,000 sharks a year https://www.americanoceans.org/fact...very Year?,recovery rate of these populations .

In 2022 sharks killed 5 people worldwide. https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/s...ide total of,which are assigned as unprovoked.

Who should be afraid?
