Another Day, Another Shooting

Nathan I never denied that most mass murderers were white. I just don't agree with the point you and Win seem to be making that they murdered because they were white Christians. I think that's a very racist and bigoted point of view. I pointed out that most individual (non-mass) murders were done by African Americans but added that it was not the skin color that caused the violence but the poverty and crime in their lives.

Why does it even matter if it's a "mass" murder or individual one? The people are all just as dead whether they died inside a group or by a lone drive-by shooter.

If you think the reason white men kill is "A deep seated sense of entitlement, and a mind consuming fear that they will lose that centuries old advantage that white, "Christian" men have enjoyed in this country," why do you think black men are even more likely to kill? Do they have a deep seated sense of entitlement and fear of losing their advantages?
^^^ Intentional misinterpretation. And foolish, as well. Or, perhaps reading isn't your strong point.
Where did I ever say they murdered because they were white Christians?

  • What do serial killers Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Earle Nelson, Henry Lee Lucas, Gary Ridgway, Dean Corll and Wayne Williams have in common? They are white Anglosaxon Christians. There are only two black serial killer: Samuel Little and John Allen (the "D.C. sniper" of 2001).
What do mass shooters Connor Betts (Dayton nightclub, Aug 2019), Patrick Crusius (El Paso Walmart, Aug 2019), DeWayne Craddock (Virginia Beach, May 2019), David Long (Thousand Oaks, Nov 2018), Robert Bowers (Pittsburgh synagogue, Oct 2018), Dimitrios Pagourtzis (Santa Fe High School, May 2018), Nikolas Cruz (Stoneman Douglas High School, Feb 2018), Devin Kelley (Sutherland Springs church, Nov 2017), Stephen Paddock (Las Vegas, Oct 2017), Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook, Dec 2012), James Holmes (Aurora theater, July 2012), Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (Columbine High School, April 1999), George Hennard (Killeen, 1991), James Huberty (San Ysidro, 1984), Charles Whitman (Austin, 1966) and Patrick Sherill (Edmond, 1986) have in common? They are white Christian men. There is only one (one) mass shooting carried out by an Asian, Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech, Apr 2007), and two (two) carried out by Muslims: Omar Mateen (Orlando nightclub, June 2016) and Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik (San Bernardino, Dec 2015). Not a single mass shooting by a black man (more than 9 people killed).
Mass shooters and serial killers are white Christian men, with rare exceptions, and frequently with Anglosaxon last names.
("Mass shooting" and "serial killer" here refers to more than 9 homicides. The higher the threshold you choose, the more likely that they are mostly white Christians with an Anglosaxon last name. The lower the threshold, the more likely that there are also other groups. Racists lower the threshold of "mass shooting" to two victims so that most killers are from poor violent neighborhoods, i.e. blacks; but most of us think that a "mass" shooting is not a shooting of two people; two is not a "mass").
These are routinely classified as cases of "mental illness" but why is it that this kind of mental illness seems to affect mainly white Christian men born in the USA? Note that articles on these mass shootings often omit the name of the shooter (they normally only mention the place and date), whereas any article on an Islamic terrorist attack would include the names of the attackers (to emphasize their religion and origin).
What was Timothy McVeigh, the author of the biggest terrorist attack in the USA carried out by a citizen (Oklahoma City, 1995)? A white Anglosaxon Christian. What about the soldiers who committed atrocities in Vietnam, like William Calley (My Lai massacre, 1968), and Iraq, like the five who gang-raped a little Iraqi girl and then murdered her and her entire family (Mahmudiyah massacre, 2006)? White Christian men. What were the militia members who in 2020 were planning to kidnap and overthrow Michigan's governor Gretchen Whitmer? White Christian men.
What do televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, evangelical minister Ted Haggard, Republican senator Larry Craig and Republican senator David Vitter, all of them involved in prostitution or sex molestation scandals? They are white Anglosaxon Christians. And so is Republican politician Roy Moore, accused in 2017 of molesting underage girls, and so is Jim Zeigler, the state auditor of Alabama, who justified Moore's behavior by noting that the Virgin Mary was a teenager when approached by Joseph the adult carpenter (thus revealing that the story of Jesus can be used as propaganda for child molestation).
Where did Win ever say people killed because they were white Christians? See above. Why else point out over and over that they were white Christians if that wasn't your point. Imagine if someone came here with a list of crimes committed and after each incident pointed out that the criminal was a black person? Imagine if someone made a long post about crimes committed by Muslim people? Those people would be called out as racist and bigoted.

If you meant something else by that post, the fault isn't in my reading comprehension but your communication skills.

What you and Nathan don't seem to understand is that racism comes in all sort of forms. Your post demonstrates that you are racist against whites and bigoted against Christians.

You seem to think that because you yourself are white it's okay, but it isn't, it is divisive and it is a false correlation in a country that is largely white to say whites commit most mass murders. I'll bet most of the mass murders in China are Asian, that proves nothing against Asians.

Yes, we need to get back to basics.
I do not think the phrasing of getting back to basics works because teaching children how to be good citizens is no longer an understood concept and many Christians are working with a false understanding of what makes us good or bad.

So on one side, we have the industrialist who base what they believe is the best education, on the skills their workers need and the product (computers) that deem essential. On the other hand are the Christians who believe not only in God but also Satan and not only a spirit of good but a supernatural spirit of evil that can possess people unless they are saved. That is those who put their faith in technology and those who put their faith in a God and Satan and angels and demons. Neither of these people what the schools involved in moral education. so we have amoral education that does not prepare our young for good moral judgment.

For those people, basic education is reading, writing, and arithmetic. They have no understanding of the ancient Greek notion that education is about being a good citizen, and when we designed our education we used literature and history to teach good citizenship, nor do they understand what science has to do with knowing truth. Therefore they do not understand what makes human beings capable of having liberty and democracy. Education for technology is producing products for industry and we left moral training to the church.

It's often a White Supremacist thing.
Your statement is the best in the argument. These people are the children of a God who has favorite people and was a war god, making it possible for His people to destroy everyone in their path.

The Bible also speaks of slaves and the powerless, and people of color have more reason to identify with them, than the White Supremacists. For years I have wondered if Europe would have had its history of wars if they did not worship a war God, whom they believe favors them and will protect them in war.

We might want to remember in the past people believed their kings were chosen by God to rule over them. No one saw anything to do with democracy in the Bible until there was literacy in Greek and Roman classics and without that literacy, our liberty and democracy are not defended.
