Another Epidemic Hits Britain

It is called the "Pingdemic", it is caused by a warning app on telephones
it sends a ping to tell you that you have been in proximity to a person who
has Covid-19 and to isolate for 10 days, there are so many being pinged,
that companies cannot function, even nurses who are treating patients with
the virus have to isolate, in many cases the police are checking on people to
see that they are home and isolating.

I heard that the Government paid £3.7Billion to have it designed and written,
to protect people, but it is getting out of hand and they won't switch it off,
probably because of the cost.

Every business wants to be considered special and that the staff can be exempt,
if pinged!

Mike.

It has hit the company that I work for very hard. So many are just saying that they have been "pinged" and that's the last we will see of them for ten days. So glad that I am technology ignorant, I wouldn't know what an app was if it slapped me round the face.

Yes I've been harping on this week about 'Pingdom' on the 'what are you doing today thread.. or 'what have you bought' thread . However nurses and medical staff do not have to isolate after being pinged.. nor do..

Critical Food & water supply workers..
Electricians
Soldiers
Train drivers
Car home staff, as well as NHS staff...

However much as we all have to be very careful during this Delta variant, this track and Trace system is being abused by many who didn't want to return to work last Monday after 16 months working from home, or people who were unable to work from home during the pandemic, are enjoying this system which sees them get paid 2 week at home.. and it's brought the country to it's knees....

Supermarket shelves are empty in some places...one well known Brewery has had to close 33 of it's pubs due to staff shortages, and so it goes on..

yesterday my DD had to go to 6 different Supermarkets ( our largest chain Tesco).. before being able to get enough shopping for her needs, and still she couldn't buy sparkling water in any of them, and all of this just a few days after the country opened completely for the first time since March 2020.

People are going nuts here as well; buying out our grocery store. Hubby couldn't find a few items. And not only that, the prices have gone up, he said. Here we go again....

From today's news...

A scheme allowing key workers to avoid Covid self-isolation in England has been significantly expanded following criticism it did not go far enough.
Police, fire, Border Force, transport and freight staff will now be able to join a daily workplace test scheme, whether they are vaccinated or not.
As many as 10,000 supermarket depot and food factory workers will also be eligible.
Several sectors have warned of staff shortages in recent days.

Currently, most people identified as close contacts of someone with coronavirus have to self-isolate for 10 days.
Police forces, local authorities, transport providers and supermarkets were among those calling for a review of the rules to avoid crippling shutdowns or skeleton operations.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "Daily testing will keep our frontline teams safe while they continue to serve the public and communities across our country."
From 16 August anyone in England who is fully vaccinated - and unvaccinated under-18s - will be able to take daily tests instead of self-isolating. Similar rules come into force in Scotland from 9 August - and in Wales from 7 August.

Growing numbers of people have been told to self-isolate, with almost 608,000 contact tracing alerts sent from the NHS Covid-19 app in the week to 15 July - a record high.

This so-called "pingdemic" has led to shortages of some products in supermarkets and staffing problems for front-line services.
The daily test scheme means eligible workers who are alerted by the app in England - or contacted by NHS Test and Trace - will be able to continue working if they test negative each day, whatever their vaccination status.
Ports, airports, rail infrastructure and haulage workers, alongside front-line police, fire and Border Force staff will now be eligible.
The government has announced an extra 200 testing sites to help screen these workers - but it is not clear when these will open.

Well, my husband and I are going to start masking again in doors. Delta is just too big a risk to ignore, vaccinated or not. But there are no shortage in my area-yet

Sometimes I wonder if we should all go back to living normal lives and see how things play out. When covid first appeared there was no vaccine and it all got pretty bad, but now with a vaccine, the pandemic shouldn't reach the proportions it did before. The anti-vaxxers would be incentivized to get vaccinated and eventually it will be all over. Gotta bite the bullet and go for it and quit jerking around.
