Another Not Guilty Verdict -Freddie Gray Baltimore

Someone should bear some responsibility for his death. He was helpless, being thrown around on the floor and not even buckled in. It made me sick to hear his story, such a shame.

And what message is it sending to police departments nationwide? You have someone in custody for any reason and something happens...hey there are ways around it. Remember that poor woman who sassed the cop over her cigarette. Oddly enough she was found hanging in her cell the next day I believe. No mental illness or depression...you know what happened there.

Sigh...Black lives do matter...why are they letting these guys off?

May be the reason is there is little to no proof these officers are guilty. Judge Barry Williams is to be commended for judging these cases on their merit and not being influenced by outside sources/ individual/s. Baltimore should not have indicted these police officers, only did so to appease the thousands of protesters. Should our courts be serving justice or vengeance??? The cry throughout Baltimore throughout this case has been "someone must pay " for Freddie Gray's death without regard to the contribution Grey made to his own demise. Tis a tragedy, but Grey caused his own death and no proof exists to repute it.

It looked like Gray's most serious charge on his rap sheet was second degree assault, most other violation were just drug related charges. None of these warranted his being killed like that IMO. If I recall, they really had no valid reason to pick him up in the first place, what crime was he committing on that day? Didn't they say he was carrying a switchblade, when it wasn't a switchblade after all, just a folding knife?

Ours is the generation that thought we could change the world. In the long run nothing changes. There are only short term gains that then some power hungry morons strip away. The fight for justice is ongoing. It always will be.

but Grey caused his own death and no proof exists to repute it.

So because "there is no proof" a crime was not committed? That would clear up so very many cases nicely now wouldn't it? So if you clean up the crime scene well enough or have your buddies parrot the story in the right manner...hey it was somehow the fault of the victim? No that isn't justice.

Then there is the physical evidence. Unless you hang yourself it's all but physically impossible to break your own neck. Even if you throw yourself wildly you will pass out before you could break your neck. However if you are shoved unbelted into a police van and tossed around the back...intentionally...yup that might do it. They should require video cameras in police vehicles.

Well, they can't convict without evidence that will stand up in court, and we should all be glad they can't. Otherwise, somebody who didn't like you could cook up a story and land you in jail. Remember the old saw "better a thousand guilty men go free than one innocent man be imprisoned." Those evidence rules are there for a very good reason.

And yes, they should have video cams in police vehicles.

In my experience justice is fleeting at best. Guilty if black occurs far too often. White privilege is rampant, unless one is poor of course, then guilty until proven rich rears it's head, not all the time, but hardly a rarity. Remember when the police were perceived as our friends? What has changed?

So these police officers, some black, should be convicted because others have been wrongly convicted before them. Do we want justice or vengeance??? Reminds me of an article on the Referendum vote in the UK; some want a new vote, and changing of rules and regulations. Do we keep trying these officers till we can find a judge and/ or jury to convict them?? Do we use these people as an example we are trying to level the playing field. At the close of the Edward Nero Case, Nero's lawyers told the court "The State's Attorney for Baltimore City rushed to charge him, as well as the other five officers, completely disregarding the facts of the case and the applicable law." "His hope is that the state's attorney will re-evaluate the remaining five officers' cases and dismiss their charges. Like Officer Nero, these officers have done nothing wrong." Luckily , the presiding judge, whom is black, The Honorable Barry Williams based his verdict on the facts/evidence presented in the case, not bending to popular public opinion; for this he should be commended.

As much as we do not like the outcome of some court cases, you cannot just demand justice and hang a rope from a tree. He was tried and found innocent, case closed. I really do not know the facts of the case however, you have to accept the verdict. Kind of like the OJ trial, I did not like the verdict but it was a trial and justice was served.

The very best prosecutors could have expected was a verdict of "negligence resulting in the victims death". Gray should have been properly restrained before moving the van, and this boils down to lack of training/ following department procedures.
