A recent investigative report having several professional athletes using/getting performance enhancing drugs from a clinic has been denied by the athletes and now has retracted statements from the report's primary source.

I looked at the youtube video where the 'retraction' was posted. The guy looks like he is reading and/or following direction from someone. This is not a heart felt moment shall we say.

Al Jazeera reporter fires back at staff member who retracted statements including they filmed/documented many things to support his claims. Also since it was undercover they also note the source didn't realize they were being filmed at first so why lie. They also have film of a baseball player showing up for a transaction. The clinic also denied the source's employment there then back tracked to an unpaid intern.

Named In Report, PIs posing as cops sent to the source's parents house.

Peyton Manning named in report as a user hired a pr guy who hired private investigators who went to the primary sources parents house posing as cops. 911 call backs the claim. Manning also now admits his wife was going to a clinic. Manning lawyers also sent to the clinic in question to "examine" his & wife's records.

I thought posing as a cop was against the law.

I often wonder what would happen if the use of performance enhancing drugs was legalized and regulated. After the anger passed, wouldn't it just be about which drug was the most effective?

That's the problem with a lot of drugs, so called legalization doesn't make the substance less dangerous. Alcohol kills as much as many other drugs. Legalization of performance enhancing drugs would turn sport into a pharmaceutical arms race where the best chemist and/or person willing to take the most risk trashing their body would win. The rules are of sport are pretty well known in most cases. If one doesn't like the rules then don't play.

Performance enhancing drugs especially things like steroids are dangerous. Being a gym rat I've personally seen the mood swings, outbursts and warped thinking from the false sense of strength & confidence. I've seen injuries from guys feeling so good they skipped warm up injuring themselves along with losing their marriage among other things. I don't want an athlete out in public on performance enhancing drugs regardless, sports like football already over promote & perpetuate aggression & violence. As a taxpayer I don't want to pay for the non superstar average athlete paying for the side effects wether it be incarceration from violent crime or health problems from physical injury or cancers from the voluntary but unnecessary use of performance enhancing drugs in the name of sport.

Again, the current rules of sport are known. Don't like the rules don't play. Cheat, get caught don't cry or rationalize like a two bit junky. If winning means that much or one's narcissism/appearance issues are that bad they need to work it out with a therapist & not chemicals in the body.

Peyton Manning, probably the most prominent figure in this story also has an old sexual harassment claim/suit resurface.

It's significant because in the original suit/incident a cover up is alleged. So even before his senior in college Manning learned the art of the cover up. Even worse people probably helped him including lying for him. So if one has learned that the art of the cover up or good publicity early in the career would it be that far of a leap to assume he covered up performance enhancing drug use. Manning's dad was a famous quarterback in the NFL and just the family name would give many incentive to cover up for jr. And probably got used to people opening doors for him or that the name would get things done without question.

Is Manning another variation of the affluenza teen dui killer? Meaning his drug use has been long covered up by himself and others as standard practice?

These Performance Enhancing drugs that many of the athletes use are increasingly shown to have some pronounced Side Effects. Testosterone, for example, recently came into the news for some serious side effects, especially if used for any length of time. The people who use this stuff may build a lot of muscle, and stamina....for a few years...but in the long run, they pay the price. It's not unusual to hear of a retired pro athlete dying fairly early, or suffering disabilities as they get older. But, when you consider the ridiculous amount of money some of the teams offer their players, its understandable why some of them would want to take "shortcuts".
