Another Plane Falls Out of the Sky

An EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo (I think) has disappeared. I'm watching CNN for information. The plane was 280km from coast of Egypt when is disappeared. I have not seen any info about how many folks were on board.

Now they are saying the distress signal was 2 hours after the plane disappeared from radar. Lots of confusion.

2 hours after it went off of radar? Too soon to make any statements of what "may" have happened. Need more information. Were they flying over any mountains? What were the weather conditions? Most people won't understand this next question, but were there any messages transmitted by the onboard ACARS system? The ACARS system onboard the aircraft stands for Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System. It is a detection device that automatically reports any maintenance issues with the plane during flight, along with other systems onboard that also report through ACARS like, amount of fuel, time remaining for the flight, etc. But, the main issue it reports back to the ground center of the airline is maintenance issues that the pilots may or may not be aware of.

If the plane hit the water, my thoughts and prayers are with the families.

If there was a distress signal sent two hours after the plane went off of radar, it may have been sent by the "PING" from one of the two black boxes. I never flew an Airbus, but the plane may also have an automatic activation device that sends out a distress signal under certain circumstances, like loss of altitude. It's not always so easy to see other aircraft in the vicinity. We depend on radar to locate aircraft and also if my plane gets too close to another plane, all planes (airliners) have a system called "TCAS", which stands for "Traffic Collision Avoidance System". This system will alert the pilot to either descend or climb, if another aircraft comes within 1000 feet or in some cases more, depending on speed and altitude of his plane.

I'm seeing on CNN that US official's early theory is that a bomb on board brought the plane down.

Hopefully it was quick and they didn't get tossed around while a terrorist and pilot fought for control of the plane. Unsure how far into flight they were.

Peace

I believe that it was Egypt Air that had a pilot who flew his plane into an ocean some years back. If so, they have had their problems. A crash is always a bad thing, that should go without saying. However, a crash into an ocean just makes it that much worse for the victims and their families. At the airline, we were trained for underwater evacuation. It was surprising when a test was conducted with a plane full of passengers and how many of them had activated their life-jackets before getting into the water. Activating your life-jacket while still inside the plane and the plane fills with water will only make a person rise to the ceiling and unable to escape. We saw a video of this test and is was chilling just to watch as some of the passengers who had activated their life jackets while still inside the plane could not get out of their jacket or out of the plane because they were stuck to the ceiling.

We continue to get a lot of misinformation about this tragedy. We received distress signal/no it was 2 hours later, we have located the crash site/the debris is not from the plane, we have located the black boxes/we are still searching for the black boxes. Rumors abound. All this just compounds the tragedy of losing 66 lives.

Yes H&A, and the 24 hour news shows march in 20 different experts throughout the day to say only, "It's too early to determine anything." Breaking News!!!!

Here is a very good article and the ACARS report that I mentioned in message #5. http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/22/middleeast/egyptair-flight-804-main/index.html The radar showed that the plane made some very unplanned (crazy) maneuvers and turns just before it went off of radar. With the turns that the radar is showing and the fact that there was smoke in the avionics and lavatory, (where most bombs are placed or detonated), I have to believe that we may find out that this was no accident, but was an act of terrorism.

The black boxes should be sending out a "ping", which they do for up to 30 days after coming in contact with water. I am not sure how deep the water is where the plane is lying in, but the depth of the water may have something to do with locating the beacon (ping). I can't imaging being handed a box of body parts and someone telling me, "Here is what we found of your Mother or Father." I continue to pray for these people.
