My boss is moving and is giving me a single size antique bed, frame and mattress. It's not really an antique, it was new when he bought it, and never took the wrapping off. He paid $1,000 for it last year, tho I have no clue why. He has king beds in all his bedrooms. It's sat wrapped in his basement since day 1. Not an antique fan, but I was more than thrilled to get it. I've thought about it constantly since he told me and it's an impossible situation.

I would have to pay 2 guys with a truck to pick it up and get it to the 2nd floor of my place. It's just not worth the expense or hassle to me, tho it would be a significant improvement over what I have in my 2nd bedroom. One SIL is in treatment for his back and the other one is having rotater (sp?) cuff surgery (from a fall) next week. They can't help at all and I don't know anyone with a truck to accommodate it. It's extremely heavy and would be a bugger to carry up the steps, wouldn't fit in our elevator. So, very sadly, I have to pass on it. BUMMER!!!
 

Maybe if you tell your boss your dilemma, he can help you out. I gave my father in laws bed away to someone in need when he passed on. That person didn't have a vehicle or any way to get it to his apartment. I loaded it into my husbands pickup truck, met the man at his apartment, and helped him get everything to his door. He had someone help him bring it inside and position it.
 
Oh, Seabreeze, if you knew this man, you would lol at the thought of him being able to help me. He's reasonably young (48), but I LOOK AFTER HIM....hire everybody that does anything for him, do all his shopping, run all his errands, everything. He's divorced and is overwhelmed with that sort of thing. Good news, he pays me very well to do it, and is always thanking me, then sends me e-mails telling me how much he appreciates me. So at least he recognizes my help and that's something a lot of bosses don't do. He sent me & my g'daughter on a week long cruise last August. I'm telling ya, he's wonderful to me, but I earn every bit of it. Poor guy doesn't realize how demanding he is, but in a very nice way, and I'm on call all the time. Whew! But I'm not complaining, I'm very grateful to have this job at my age.

I just hired a new housekeeper for him and found a wonderful painter who is painting for him as I type this. He hires everything done for himself, as most successful men do. It was a great idea you had in concept, but he just wouldn't be able to put that together. And it would be extremely difficult to get the bed to the 2nd level here. It's so heavy and cumbersome. If I were fond of antiques, I would find a way, but I'm not and I don't want to ask the man who gave it to me to help me out with the expense of moving it. But my daughter who LOVES antiques is hiring a couple teenagers and loaning them her husband's small truck to move it to her house. I'm thrilled to death she's getting it and she's over the moon. This is my daughter who has been through cancer twice in the last 2-1/2 years, so anything that makes her happy warms my heart.
 

Katybug, its so good to see that your daughter is able to use the bed and she sounds deseving of it as wel' I hope all is going well for your daughterl.
 
Katy your boss sounds like a nice man, very nice of him to give you the bed shame you can't get it up to your home but at least your daughter will enjoy it, sounds like she needs a lift after what she has been through, let's hope she has beaten this awful disease

 
Thanks to all for your suggestions and concern. My daughter's prognosis is very good, but you never know with that gawdawful disease. The worry never leaves my mind. I'm just grateful I didn't have the type breast cancer that is genetic, that would be another type to worry about for both my girls.
 
Katybug, so nice to hear that your boss is so nice, and your job even sounds like fun at times, I'd get a kick out of doing something like that. Awesome that your daughter is excited about the bed, it doesn't get any better than that! Hoping she stays happy and as healthy as possible. :glittered:
