Ants on Boiled Eggs

I boiled some eggs yesterday and left them on the stove to cool before refrigerating. They were still in the shell. When I went to put them away, there were very tiny black ants all over them. I thought at first one had cracked and that would have attracted the ants, but I didn't see any obvious cracks. I've never seen this happen before. I could see it if they were unpeeled. I just wonder what would have attracted ants to unpeeled boiled eggs.

They know what's inside the shell. They smell it. Ants are very smart. Yucky, too. Hate bugs.

With ants it's one makes a trail and the rest follow the trail. Who knows why the first one decided to crawl on a boiled egg. I'd sometimes find them milling around on my counter when the counter was clear of anything to eat.

If you've got ants, or any other bugs in your house, that should be "addressed"...especially if they are getting into your food.

My wife likes to sew, and a few years ago, she found a solution that keeps our place pretty much bug free. She saves the coffee grounds for several days, puts them on a paper plate to let them dry out, then makes several small "pouches" with some of her excess sewing cloth. She fills the pouches with a tablespoon of the dry used coffee grounds, sews them shut, then places them around the doors and windows. Since she started doing that, it is rare to see a bug....ants, ladybugs, spiders, etc., etc. anywhere in the house. She does this every Spring, and it keeps us bug free for the entire rest of the year.

Another solution is to buy some "Terro Ant Killer", and place a couple of drops anywhere near where you see the ants. However, that stuff is "poison", and must be used Very Carefully...especially where any food is nearby.

As far as I know hard boiled eggs & chocolate covered ants isn't a good combination. So washing them down the drain while not what PETB [Proper Ethical Treatment of Bugs]would like it's the easy way to get rid of them.
