I have suffered from anxiety disorder for years. Everybody tells me it is all in my head and just stop worrying, they don't realize that I would do that if I could. During a severe anxiety attack I am totally disabled, unable to even watch TV and feel like the world is closing in around me. The doctor wants to put me on zoloft but after reading the side effects I said no. He gives me xenex that helps but he will only give me 15 at a time because they are very addictive.

I've been trying alternative supplements that so far have been of little help. I read about CBD oil and just received it but haven't tried it yet. Does anyone else suffer from anxiety have any suggestions on how to beat it?

We use CBD Balm for arthritis pain and it definitey works for us.

From my previous experience, years ago, but still, in EMS and working in Senior Healthcare..........it's definitely a REAL thing.

Oldal, Xanax works very well for me for at least a year. People are different, but i don't feel addicted or even feel the need to take it every day. When I do, sometimes just half of the pill will do. I hope you can feel better!

My lady says the CBD oil really buoys her spirits
Back in the day, she was pretty much a zombie when on Zoloft

For me, I can't tell if CBD oil does anything in the happy dept, as I'm...if anything...too happy already
But it sure helped me thru my little shingles episode

My doctor told me is was addicting and the internet also. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance for that reason. It does work for my anxiety and fast but even when I'm well rested, it makes me so sleepy I can't function. That is better then anxiety though so in bad attacks I take it.

I get night-time anxiety for some reason. Not all the time; I just have the occasional night when my brain will not shut down and worries about everything under the sun. Stupid things......things that happened 40 years ago.......things I had no control over....

A very low dose Valium puts me down for the night...BAM! The trouble is that I'm a bit on the foggy side the next morning.

I understand completely, Odal. A class IV can be addictive, but I do believe at least some of this depends on the person. Your doc is wise to limit quantities. But, when you really feel desperate, it believe it does more good than harm.

That's too bad to live with so much anxiety. Wondering your age. I had a panic attack back in 2005 and sent me to the ER as I didn't know what was happening. They called it panic attack, I guess about the same as anxiety, right?

Since then I've had no anxiety and I'm thinking MAYBE it's because I take good doses of magnesium thru the day, have been for many years and for sure since that P.A.

You might need magnesium and then there are things like:

Inositol
Gaba
L Theanine

That I work with for my sleep remedy but some use these thru the day.

I don't LOVE drugs and have had enough side effects from some in my 80 yrs so avoid them as best I can.

I can't imagine living in so much anxiety. I'm feeling a little anxious today and think I'll have a glass of low sodium V8 and my MSM drink...maybe need some potassium. Low sodium V8 is high in potassium.

Hope you find help. Maybe take low dose of the benzo for that in between times..but think of the others I've mentioned.

Also, it could be that the THYROID needs Help???!!!!! I was that route for 10 miserable years from 1991 to 2002....we are not numbers and that's what docs go by...we are symptoms...anxiety can be a symptom of a sluggish thyroid.

Here is a informative link and Iodine is mentioned. I have been taking Iodine for years, all our body tissues NEED it and so many are deficient...Thyroid needs it for sure. Fluoride in our tap waters leech iodine from our bodies. A good holistic type MD could be of great benefit...or a Naturopath.

FInd a new doctor. I usually have to go through 5 doctors before I find one that will prescribe 90 with a refill of Xanax. Right now I have over 300 of them since I do not use them every day and stopped using them last year. I tried about 8 anti depressants and yes they all have side effects that were unacceptable to me. However I went with an old school AD called Wellbutrin. Google it. It reduces appetite, makes you happy and increases your libido.

I strongly suggest that you see a Psychiatrist. I had resisted that for years but finally gave it a try and he changed my meds and I saw immediate results. Regular doctors have little training in mental illnesses. They will just go through a list of drugs to try and give you a handful of Xanax. A Psychiatrist has no qualms about providing you with what you need in the amount you need. I am pretty much off all Benzos and the Wellbutrin handles my anxiety. I keep the Xanax handy in case of break through anxiety attacks. You may also benefit from talk therapy with a Psychiatrist or Psychologist. I hear that their success rate is high and no drugs involved once they wean you from them as I am almost done myself.

You are not going to fine a solution with a regular MD. I tried for 45 years and I have moved 13 times in that period so it was hell to find a doctor willing to give me what I needed to get to sleep and work. Now all is well that I am dealing with doctors who specialize in mental diseases.

Your right on track Vinny....totally agree that a psyche doc is way more helpful and keeps tabs on you more frequently than the gp's....
panic attacks and anxiety are right up there with depression, bi-polar and the other mental illnesses that more than half the population in our country suffer from....

You've posted this ailment many times on other sites OA and you get the same responses every time....read Vinny's post and mine and please take action accordingly.....the gp's dont know their stuff when it comes to mental issues!

I couldn't agree with you more. Any mental illness issue is best dealt with by a psychiatrist and not a GP. I have spoken with quite a few people that are on different meds for different psychosis's, but many say they prefer Xanax. A lot of the people that I have dealt with have suffered from panic attacks with or without agoraphobia.

I know very little of these meds, but I do know that Xanax, being a benzodiazepine, can lead to the patient becoming dependent or even addicted. I have also been told that anyone who has taken this drug for any length of time should not just stop taking it all at once, but should wean them self off of the drug.

Wellbutrin is tricky. During a low point in my life, I tried it. It made me suicidal. Low dose Paxil worked. Xanax is effectife for anxiety. With the current opioid epidemic in BC, psychiatrists are the only medical professionals able to prescribe in in effective amounts. Everyone else is held captive by the licensing boards. If a person is exhibiting drowsy symptoms re taking Xanax, the dose should be lowered. Initially, most patients try a quarter or half a m tablet.

Haha ------"Even coffee is addictive. " If you want to see a panic attack, you should be here when I arise and my wife tells me that I forgot to pick up a can of coffee the night before!!!!

Right on. Even if the cream or milk is gone.

This is the way I look at it. It's a tough world out there. Whatever it takes to get through it, do it.

We are lucky to have the diagnostics now and the prescriptions.

Exactly Camper....would rather be able to function somewhat normally even if its addictive, meaning you have to stay on the med for a long time....the gp can test your blood every six months, asking if you're having any side effects, for kidney and liver functions , while the psyche doc gets that report plus has you visit every three months with alot of questions asked....I obviously know this from experience over many years....

To say it is all in your head is useless. Of course it is in your head (mind or brain) so are all other mental difficulties.
That does not make it easier, it makes it tougher. It's not like a headache.
There is an anxiety discussion forum filled with sufferers around the world and some advice.
Medications are evaluated. Zoloft is very commonly used.

That is good advice, a psychiatrist would be the best doctor to see with anxiety. It would be hard for me to do, I only go out to the doctor to get my diabetes and hbp meds. I'm over the attack I had last Friday/Saturday. I have been having some success with the CBD oil, not sure if it did reduce/stop the attack I had last week but I did start taking it Saturday and have every day since. It has almost eliminated the pain in my back and shoulder. Stopping this pain should help reduce anxiety. I appreciate all the advice everyone has given in this thread, anything that increases the knowledge about anxiety gives more options.
