Any Experience with Ranunculus?

I dunno, I've tried it in the ground and in a pot. So pretty when they come home, then within a week the flowers go PFFFFFT. Do you just dead head the spent ones? The ones last year were in the ground and committed suicide in a month. Other plants thrive in the same spot. Advice????

I have grown them from bulbs with some luck but the flowers really do not last that long. Hard to grow.

One perennial that just does not seem to want to cooperate with me is Astilbe, and believe me I have tried and tried. Just get greenery and some faded out little blooms.
