Well do NOT invest in those twirley things. The pigeons around here seem attracted to them…seem hypnotized in fact.
Interesting. I'd never heard the term "monkey nuts" till today. I call 'em "peanuts in the shell".I tell you what's also bad, is one of my neighbours is feeding monkey nuts to Squirrels...loads of shells are discarded in my garden

... the squirrels are running along my fence and trellis, and they broke 2 fence panels and trellises this past summer...
I've asked all the neighbours whose feeding the squirrels.. and they all deny it.. but I know almost certainly who it is, they just won't fess up..

Yes, in the UK, 'Monkey nuts' is the common name for peanuts in their shell.Interesting. I'd never heard the term "monkey nuts" till today. I call 'em "peanuts in the shell".
The only effective thing you can do is ask the neighbour to stop feeding them. Soon you’ll be getting mice in your house too.I've been living here for 12 years now and have never had this problem. New people have moved in next door, and I was wondering why so many birds have been
landing on my roof, theirs and the house next door to them. It's like an Alfred Hitchcock movie "The Birds". There must be at least 200 of the critters. The other morning, I came out of my back door and saw the woman throwing food all over the place and the result was birds going berserk. This happens twice a day. They are crapping all over the place and my son had to move my clothesline to the side of my house to stop the washing getting soiled. I turn the hose on them whenever
I hear them on my roof. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of them.?
I had a similar problem a few years ago. I talked to a friend who was a serious birdwatcher and amateur ornithologist. She told me that feeding birds "habituates" them and makes them less likely and/or able to fend for themselves. I conveyed that to the neighbor in my most sympathetic and bird-loving tones (I had to fake it). Wonder of wonders, she took down her feeders and the birds went away.I've been living here for 12 years now and have never had this problem. I agree. They probably take the food up to the roof to finish eating it with no interruptions, then they go down for more, rinse and repeat. Also, they're likely leaving crumbs up there, which will attract other birds. The neighbor should use bird feeders, not just throw food all over the ground, IMO.It sounds like you’ve identified the source of the problem.
I doubt that anything will change until your neighbor stops feeding them.

I have birds and squirrels in my neighborhood, I don't feed either of them, but I will at times find peanut shell in my back yard, dropped there by some critter. It's no bother, very little and only occasional.Yes, in the UK, 'Monkey nuts' is the common name for peanuts in their shell.
Oh pigeons are not hard to scare off being Australia I thought maybe some type parrot because you have some lovely birds there , cockatiels come to mind and the color morphs are very popular here .Thanks everyone for some handy hints. These birds are doves or pigeons, they all look the same to me. They don't migrate just hang around and make a nuisance. I might buy some artificial snakes and reflective tape, a neighbour said I could buy some tape that hums in the breeze and could scare the doves. I'll keep you posted.
I don't like to every hurt any animals, but I bet some mousetraps on the roof snapping when hit into would soon spook them, they probably don't even need to be baited with bread.I'd bet a Disco mirror ball mounted on a drop cord from a breeze/wind rotating stand would be highly annoying to any birds. Well at least where sun shines.
A neighbor tried using one of those stuffed owls to scare noisy pigeons but that had no effect as animals are not so stupid to be tricked that easily once they notice something is static like dead.
That noted, one might expect in the near future to see AI products of screeching speaker, solar powered for wing flapping movement, scare owls to replace noted stuffed owls.
