Any of you drink out of a mountain stream?

Just ordered and received this for the future.....read about it in a survivals manual.....actually I hope I never get to use it....

LifeStraw®
LifeStraw® water filters convert contaminated water into clean, safe drinking water. The easy-to-use filters are a vital tool for some of the 780 million people who don’t have ready access to safe drinking water. LifeStraw® is a sister company to Vestergaard, headquartered in the United States.

I have and continue to do so. As a child we had a spring that started on our farm and continued down to a creek. In summer we would drink the best ice cold water from that spring.
I've drank from many springs in my life and have yet to get sick from them.
I still drink ice cold spring water daily as there is a mountain spring about 1 mile from my home. My son regularly fills jugs with it.
You are so lucky to have a nearby spring! My oldest son lives in Oregon and he travels miles to get fresh spring water.

I had a friend that took a drink out of a mountain spring and almost died. He picked up a parasite from the spring. He had spent 2 months in the hospital and his wife was told that he was probably going to die. He was transferred to a hospital in Pittsburgh and a virologist studied his case, did some tests and found that he had a worm in his brain. He had no speech, use of his extremities and couldn’t walk.

The medicine that he was given somehow caused the worm to exit out his eye. It was about 3 or 4 months before he returned to being mostly normal. That was 20 some years ago, so the details are kind of foggy.

For the 14 years I lived in my remote Alaskan cabin my water came from a well outside Fairbanks or one on the side of the road near Livengood. Never got sick then again not stream water but plenty of animals also stopped there for water.

Absolutely have; both mountain stream and underwater stream water. Years ago when our well was out of commission for 6 months, that’s the only water we had. It’s my understanding that the different elements of the ground, like sand, pebbles, water plants etc., filter the water . People from the city travel all the way just to drink this water. It’s the coldest, most delicious water ever.
You are correct Keesha, the earth does clean the waters up, however not too safe with nearby industry. Mountain stream, incredible and YES I have drank from those streams. At home I have a drilled well where the rock cleans it very nicely. Also there is no industry up stream of my location.
Happy drinking....:D:devilish::devilish:👍

No industry where this underground steam is which is perhaps why people travel so far to get it. Plus it’s a underground stream, meaning any contaminants have to go through many layers of ground before reaching the stream.
No industry where we live either but I think we are further north than you.

I drank from mountain streams in the California coast ranges throughout the 1970's more times than i can possibly remember. I never experienced any ill effects. Now however, I'd utilize my LifeStraw or similar device.

We have a few of those, best one in my opinion is near Haliburton. Runs 12 months a year. Clear cold and tasty...
At home I have a drilled well, water is cold enough to cool the tap in less than a minute and tastes great.

Same here, over the years had some neighbors come over to get some water. They would load up a couple of jugs and in return would bring up some supplies for me. Being at the top of the water shed has a lot to do with it.

True enough.
Ours is from a massive underground lake due to the doings eons ago of Mt Mazama (Crater Lake)

Every late summer, I'm given to wonder.....'will this thing ever dry up?'
It still runs fast, no matter the season
So cool to the throat on a hot day
So pure

Liquid gold

I have to agree with you on the gold taste, have seen many city people bring their bottled water up, one taste of the well water and they dump theirs down the sink. Mother nature rules here. Drilled this well 27 years ago, running better and better year round. Lot of wells in the area
get the sulfur smell to it. The man that drilled it told me there was a huge underground river coming down from the north. A lot of the local lakes here are rain and spring fed.

I've drank small amounts of water over the years from mountain waterfalls/streams....usually the water comes from snow melt and tastes great. But, when I hike anywhere I always have water with me to drink if needed, so I don't depend on stream water. Never got sick doing that, would do it again if conditions were right. Like Gary said, it depends on the area, the stream and the time of year. When we go camping our dog and cat will drink stream water also, and neither of them ever had any problems. If we were by a lake or something that wasn't that fresh, we always have plenty of fresh water for both us and the pets.
