I love the thrill of the hunt and am always on the lookout for a new whatchamacallit for the collection.

While I would never buy used underwear or shoes, I have found a lot of fabric finds in clothing to turn into a new outfit.

Yesterday I scored big time, eyeglasses by Chanel for the ridiculous sum of $5 While I usually wear contacts I do like to keep a pair of glasses also. Those frames retail for over $200 so worth getting new lenses put in.

Anyone else a thrifter? It is good for the ecology.

I used to be for about a year. Just for things I needed or could put to use, now- not someday.. Cute handbag and a set of dishes, a few new blouses and some other items but now I don't need anything really, so there's no point.

On my way to the supermarket I sometime stop in at one shop to see if any pieces of my mother's old dinnerware set might be there, but aside from one time when I got the sugar bowl and creamer, I haven't been lucky.
 
I love thrift shops. A new Salvation Army store just opened up near us. Nice and clean,everything labeled and a try on room. Plugs to try out appliances. Who could ask for anything better. I try not to buy anything to stand around but it is so hard. I've decided if I see something I like I'll buy it and my next trip I'll donate something. With my new sewing hobby I've bought a window panel that I turned into a little curtain for my bedroom. Long sleeve blouses become short sleeved. Something I would never try on a new blouse. Recently found a replacement lid for my favorite Pyrex bowl. The photo shows a framed picture, which I've always liked, with all the colors that go nicely in my kitchen. This wasn't even opened and I got it for 75 cents. I had to have it.

I hit several of them each week when I'm out running my errands.

I don't buy much these days. I try to stick with a catch and release policy where I drop off a box or bag of items when I visit so I have room for a few nice items that turn up.

Today I saw one of these ceramic monkey bread molds from Williams Sonoma for $2.99 but I passed. My baking days are quite literally behind me!:rolleyes:

I did spring for this Spode Blue Room coffee mug in the blue rose pattern for a total of $0.90.

We don't have any thrift stores where I live but from April to Nov. I do go to yard sales. I got a Prada tote bag for $1.00, a winter coat for $2.00 and all kinds of jewelry. I Got a Dior faux diamond and gold necklace for 50 cents at a church fair. That's pretty good. All of my art comes from yard sales and my jardinieres too. I also get kitchenware, a set of corning baking dishes new - for $2.00 and various utensils, like basters and carving knives, and tea mugs and cozies. When I see the prices of kitchenware in stores it's shocking. Gimme a yard sale. :sentimental:
 
Yes I love dropping in for a look ...recently I bought a little bowl with a lid I picked it up,and it had Royal Albert on the bottom ..so I thought I don’t need that I’ve got to much in the china cabinet already, I paid the $2 for it and put it on eBay I got $40 for it, it was so pretty it had a butterfly on top of the lid ( not a painted one ) it had gold trim on the edges of it ..don’t think I still have a photo or I’d post it ..I will look and come back if I still have a photo
