Any pool shooters here?

In my hometown, I well remember one of those smoky, wood-paneled pool halls filled with tables of various types. My stepdad taught me about the ubiquitous 8-ball, and the gambler's games of straight pool, 9-ball, and others. They even had a couple of snooker tables, but I never saw anybody play. Since then (the pool hall is long gone), I've become fascinated with snooker and appreciate its intricacies.

Any shooters here? Of any type?

Nope, no pool for me but I got pretty good, as they used to say, for a girl at foosball. I was just sitting here in the den thinking I would have room for the grandson to have a table.

When I was growing up we had a pool table in our rec room and I played pool all the time. It was really fun. It’s been years since I played pool.

I played at my local Pool Hall in my 20's. Allison Fisher, the snooker and 9 ball champ came out for an exhibition one night. She was lovely!AllisonFisherProfilePic750x750.jpg

Yep, started in Junior High. We had a nice pool hall in town. I think it was Willie Moscone ( a pro ) gave an exhibition. Then in my 30's and 40's it was old taverns and town pool halls. Beer and fun. Then I tried to play at a friends house when about 60...I was shocked and how bad I had gotten. Just shocked! :)

I used to be. We had a pool table in our home, but it finally became a base for my HO model railroad layout.

Kind of sad isn't it, there are no longer the neighborhood pools halls where young and old were welcome. Pool, air hockey, foosball, pinball and skiball. It was the place to be in the 70s.

Oh yes, I became hooked on pool starting in 1958-59. I spent oodles of time in the poolrooms, later playing in scores of tournaments all over up until about 2 years ago. Pool playing was really declining in the 1950s, but in 1961 with the movie The Hustler, it caused a resurgence of the game.

Today there are still poolrooms to be found in most larger locales, but nothing like in its heyday when every city had multiple pool rooms. The smaller "bar box" tables --usually 3'x6', or 3-1/2'x7' gradually reduced the number of regular pool room players. It's still pretty much that way today. But pool has become international, even becoming an Olympic sport.
