Any runners on here?

I have been running for 11 years now, and I am so much slower at age 62. Would love some input from runners who are aging but still running races and trying to keep up.
I used to run for recreation, not races....and I loved it!!! I always felt so good!

Without boring you with too many details, I'll just say that I have not had a place to run for many years. I really miss it!!! šŸƒ

There is a saying: use it or lose it. When I'm at the roller rink, between parties, I run a little.....but it's not the same. I've gotten out of shape and conditioning. The extra 20 lbs that I have acquired since I stopped running also hinder my getting back into.

I wish I had never stopped!!! 😢
 
I quit running in my late 40s. It's only natural that you get slower with age as per below:

"Ageing leads to a decrease in maximal oxygen intake of about 5 ml/[kg. min] per decade over much of adult life. If such losses continue into old age, a point is reached when the ordinary activities of ordinary independent daily life become intolerably fatiguing."

I stopped running years ago for a variety of reasons but I did like the feeling I got after running; that runners high was nice.I enjoyed the act of doing it also.
Now a brisk walk is about all this body can handle and that certainly isn’t a complaint. I’m grateful to have the ability to walk. Someday I won’t.

Joking! My knees are so stiff I am grateful just to walk!

I do admire runners, it surely must be wonderful - or so I remember as a child. To have power in the body, wind in your hair and wellbeing.

Due to being quite obese I quit running in my mid forties. I'm not longer overweight, and re-learned how to run, thanks to some fitness mentors. I want to do a 5K this year, soon. If I have to jog or walk part of it, that's OK, I don't want to aggreviate my right knee that's "fussy" sometimes...
 
I have run the marathon in the link for the past 8 years. This will be my last year because my times are beginning to get longer. Check out the rules. It’s the longest marathon I have run. I have a few friends that have fun 50k. Not this boy. In the future, I will not go over 5k.

Due to being quite obese I quit running in my mid forties. I'm not longer overweight, and re-learned how to run, thanks to some fitness mentors. I want to do a 5K this year, soon. If I have to jog or walk part of it, that's OK, I don't want to aggreviate my right knee that's "fussy" sometimes...

I would say half of the participants of local 5K are walkers. It's the journey to the finish line.

Getting slower is a hard mental hurdle. Just taking it year by year.
