Any super-early risers?

I’m an early riser but would prefer not to be waking up too early.

I am usually asleep between 8 and 9 and have my alarm set for 6:15 but almost always turn it off before it rings. Last night I was asleep closer to 8 and woke up around 3 the first time, later than usual. So I read for a while before putting the dog out and bringing her up for snuggles and cat naps. I figure I have 7 to 7.5 hours of sleep in the tank for today. I consider that a good result.

Year round i tend to get up with the sun. Which means 1) my rising and turning in times rotate throughout the year and 2) on very cloudy days unless i have an appt of some kind i sleep a bit a later even in summer. i was up at 5:40 today, but i don't consider that 'super early' for this time of year. If i had an 8 a.m. appt in the city i'd be up even earlier so i could get furbabies fed, breakfast dishes washed etc before leaving with time to spare cause i prefer to arrive early than late and you never know what traffic in city will be like.

What i'm not quite sure of is why i sleep less in general in summer, actually a month or so after the spring equinox to a month or so before the winter one. Unless i've physically expended too much energy it takes me a couple to a few hours after sunset to feel tired. So perhaps that is in some way tied to light cues

Went over to feed the ferals before 6.
I would love that! Our cat, who died a few years ago, would stay out all night and when I went out to feed him in the morning, I would call him and then always get a rush of happiness that would bring tears to my eyes, when I would see him coming safely in from the fields.

My 'ferals" would have already come and gone by morning, leaving a big mess in the garage where I had left kibble out for them.

I am up at about 3am for the bathroom. I am up for hour, having some oatmeal and devotions and then back to bed til 7am or so. I take melatonin and valerian root extract and it seems to help me fall back asleep.

That is a good idea to mention what if any measures people take to aid sleep.

I take at least one Trazadone nightly but I can up that to two or three depending on how well I’ve been sleeping recently or how concerned I am about the demands of the next day. I also take two Magnesium nightly though I don’t have dosage ready to hand for either. On nights I take three Trazadone I also take a third Magnesium. I also take Melatonin and a Musinex to keep my nasal airway open (for the CPAP).

My ace in the hole is to take a Zolpidum (Ambien) if I’ll be driving a long distance the next day. When I do I don’t take with the others but set it beside on my nightstand to take on my first pee run, usually 3-4 hours in. That way I can get 8-9 hours sleep which helps with inevitable drowsiness when driving for a few hours.

Not on purpose... Since hubby died, fall asleep around 4am, wake up at 7am. Fall asleep around 9am and up at 11am. Usually fall asleep after lunch or dinner as well. Difficult times...

I get up either at 4 or 5 AM. I am always "bright eyed and bushy tailed." That is the way the Good Lord made me.

Never could understand those late risers walking around at 10 or 11 AM with eyes half closed and a sour look on their faces but again, that is the way the Good Lord made them.

I was soooo looking forward to sleeping late when I retired. Turns out I couldn't do it. Now if I sleep until 6:00 I feel like I have slept in. I am up anywhere from 3:30 until 5:00 usually.

I usually sleep a solid 8 hours. So, if I wanted to get up at 4 AM I would need to be in bed by 8 PM. That's too early. OTOH, If I want to be up at 6 AM, I better be in bed by 10PM. Or use that dang alarm clock.

I like to go to bed when the sun goes down and it gets dark outside. I like to get up when the sun comes up and it is getting light outside. A habit that I have learned from the dogs that I have had.

Tomorrow I'll be rising early because I have to vote in the primary before I leave for work. Polls open 6 am.
