Anybody Else Here Still Waiting for Their Tax Returns from Their Preparer?

This is the latest it's ever been to hear back from our tax preparer. And like an idiot, I forgot to make note of the date that Huzz dropped off the forms with them so I'm not positive how long it's been, but I think it's been at least 2 weeks. For the last 2 or 3 years, they've been putting in the letter they send with our tax prep packet to please get our forms in as soon as possible since they're short-staffed.

Especially concerning is if we have to pay both State and Feds like we did last year, it'll mean a trip down to the Post Office to send the checks by maybe overnight mail. (And what's frustrating about that is it seems with our Post Office, it's: "We offer 2-day Express Mail and Overnight Mail. But if you really need something to be there in 2 days, you'll need to send it Overnight. If you really need something to be there overnight, hahahaha, dream on!")
You're the second friend who has complained about not hearing from her tax preparer in a timely fashion. They are playing with people's financial health when they don't get the taxes done in a timely manner. If you incur any penalties, you should pass it on to them. Will your tax person attend an audit with you if necessary? Can I ask why you use a preparer rather than a tax program?

As of the 6th of April UberEats had not sent my 1099. Got tired of waiting and manually filled out a Schedule C with the correct earnings. Filed it online and my return was accepted. Got my missing 1099 today, whatever :(

I called the tax co. last week and they said they'd have it ready in just a day or 2 and they did. So we had them file it electronically since we had to pay in a little (less than last year thank goodness); didn't want to do what I did last year: waiting in line down at the Post Office to mail the checks in registered/overnight mail, sigh.

Anyway, our electronic payments will process on April 15! I said, "Wow, will that be okay?!" She said, "Oh, yeah, that's fine." I guess if it isn't, as you said, I should pass any penalties on to them. The last couple of years, their yearly letter to us has asked clients to get all the forms to them as soon as possible since they're so short-handed; a lot of their staff retired. In fact, one year, they had to let a bunch of clients go since they didn't have enough staff. luckily they kept us on. The Camp Fire back in 2018 caused a bunch of the tax/financial companies to leave the area and they haven't been replaced much.

We use a tax preparer rather than a tax program, which I used to do with Turbo Tax, because it was getting too hard for me. I've just never been good with math, and I found Turbo Tax getting more and more complicated.
