Anybody having problems with usernames and passwords?

I also have old accounts through Microsoft (MSN and Hotmail emails) that I don't want to ditch. My desktop uses Thunderbird to process my emails, and all too often it can't access my Microsoft emails and resetting everything is a royal pain in the butt. So I don't bother anymore.

My workaround? All my Microsoft emails are automatically forwarded to similarly named accounts from another provider. So while StarSongXYZ@hotmail.com emails might not be easily accessible, it doesn't matter because they're showing up at StarSongXYZ@yahoo.com.

I occasionally sign into my Microsoft emails to clear out old emails.

BTW, Thunderbird is a meh email app. If anyone knows of a better one, I'd love to learn about it.

THANK YOU!!! Right after reading your suggestion on forwarding all Hotmail (Outlook) messages to another email provider, I went into Outlook settings, found the option, did it, tested it, and it worked!

You have no idea how much this means to me. This has eleviated a lot of worry. If I can't sign into Hotmail, it will not be the big issue it was.

I tell you what annoys me, is very often outlook will not accept my password even tho' I know it's the correct one. Just yesterday for example..it did it again.. I entered the correct p/word 3 times then it said I had to make a new password, so I let it send me a link so I could change the password, and then I entered the same p/wod I was using before.. and it said ''You can't use the same p/word you've used in the last year '':oops::oops:...but wait..I thought I was entering the wrong p/word according to outlook..:oops:
Oh yes! I get the same crap from iCloud photos from my iphone. Every month when I log in they tell me that my password is wrong. I know it's right because I always write it down. So, every month I have to change my password. It's very annoying because I pay for the service of uploading my photos.

The whole website log-in / username & password fresh hell of present is thanks to the hacker tools available now that are overwhelming internet security. Some financial and Gov't sites play stupid and won't recognize established user log-in credentials, forcing the user to "reset" passwords, then rejecting them as well.

I ditched Thunderbird once I was without an ISP mail service. I'm been pleased with Gmail as well as Google's other services.

But you have to log into each email to see what came in, right? I have 8 different 8 mail accounts. I could ditch 3 of them without missing too much, but not the rest. Logging into each one every day, never mind several times a day? To channel Scarett O'Hara: Why Suh, I feel faint at the very thought...

I'm not sure what you mean, if I'm logged in to Gmail in a browser all emails can be read at any time. If you "log off" the account or dump all data upon close of the browser, then next time of course You'd have to log in.

I normally browse incognito with incognito set to automatically clear history and cookies with each browser closing, and I want incognito kept that way.

This means I have to use a regular (not incognito) Chrome window to remain logged into Outlook, since I don't have it (a regular window) set to clear history and cookies with each browser closing.

Doing things this way makes me uncomfortable, even though no one but me ever has access to my laptop, because if someone hacked into my machine through my ISP, it seems they could go straight into my email account which remains open in a regular Chrome window. If that's so, then I could be at more risk now than the way I used to do things, which was to use incognito for everything, and log in and out of email every time I use it. Do you see it that way too?

I use 'evolution'. Works. Like the layout better than Thunderbird.
Evolution is an open source groupware application with plenty of features and a powerful, flexible, and free email client. This solution simplifies connection to Microsoft Exchange servers, offers a spam filter (through SpamAssassin) and supports S / MIME for secure messages. Evolution can manage multiple POP, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange and local email accounts. It integrates calendar, address book and email; it features flexible filters and virtual folders, as well as the ability to classify and prioritize messages, which can be annotated (e.g. for follow-up) and tagged with colors.
