Looking for the best deal--I'm assuming none of the free ones are worth a darn?--since about all I need is one that will blur faces (and license plates, etc.). Oh, and I'm using Win11. Thanks.

Video editing software tends to be complex with terminology to learn. Why many people never post videos because it requires reading directions and using web searching to understand terms and functions. Read current reviews for such software.
For my YouTube free video account, I use Adobe Premiere Elements 12 that is a dated product over a decade old. Just understand using it in ways I need to as has many functions I've never used. Newest version is Adobe Premiere Elements 2025 that has similar processes. Note am also an old Photoshop user.
This is what the completed timeline complexity looks like for a 2 minute video. The Video 2 row are text image annotations. The Audio 2 track is added free music from the Adobe library. Those different sections are clips. No one dumps raw unedited videos out of cameras onto the web as files are too large usually with dead space that would waste memory.

Openshot is open source software, so it’s free. I used to use it to edit video for a local dance club. I imagine it’s still a decent program. Fairly simple as far as video editing software goes.

Last time I had to edit a video, I used OpenShot Video Editor. It's free and easy to use.
I've also used VSDC video editor.
Granted, I'm just doing some really basic editing. It's been a while, so I don't even remember what I was doing.

Can you post some of your videos or post links?
I am interested in video editing, but a novice. I learn from others.

I have tried Open Shot. Yes, easy to use.
Did not try Adobe.
But I use DaVinci Resolve (free version).
It took me a long time to learn it. (still am learning as I go)
A lot more I can do with it. But much harder to learn. (Fusion part is the real hard part for me to learn)
DaVinci has numerous tutorial videos on their software. (thank you DaVinici and those who do these videos!),
The user does not have to be a tech. It seems like there are several methods of getting the desired effect, without being a Programmer.
It does seem to use a lot of Ram and Hard-drive space.
A big con for me is that most of the Transitions do not work for me. (not sure why)
Never-the-less, this is the video editor I would not give it up. I like it.
