As a kid I use to watch him simply because he was funny.

Right, Nancy. My mom use to listen to him on TV and radio.

I remember watching him a few times with my aunt -he was entertaining at times.

Unfortunately his canonization has been halted ...

Yes, indeedy. I remember seeing him on tv when I was still pretty young and I thought he was supposed to be the devil (hey, funny hat, big cape, intense look.......I wasn't Catholic, what did I know?). Many years later, a bunch of us are talking about our high school senior trips....beach, New York, etc. and my late husband said, "Well, I can guarantee that whatever your senior trip was it was sure a lot more fun than mine." Apparently, HIS senior trip consisted of taking a bus to New York and having Bishop Sheen personally hear their confessions (he was in a Catholic prep school for boys preparing for the priesthood). Everyone was expected to be totally silent on the way back (12-hour ride) so as to reflect properly on the extreme honor that had been bestowed on them.
