Anyone else watch shark tank on TV?

The wife and I enjoy watching all those wealthy investors and entrepreneurs seeking investors deal.

I catch part of it sometimes if I'm in the kitchen watching TV, some of the people have some interesting products or services. I didn't like the guy recently though who said he had a new good bathrobe for the men to wear. It was basically a short robe like a sweatshirt, and then sweatpants underneath it. It wouldn't have been any easier or nicer to wear around the house in my opinion, looked like it would be too hot and uncomfortable too.

I don't like "Mr. Wonderful" (Kevin O'Leary) as he goes out of his way to hurt some of the inventors.

I know what you mean, he is heartless. But I saw one episode where someone really needed to be frank with two young super-thin gals who had designed a pair of jeans that they said would eliminate the battle of the bulge at the waistline. One of the gals said she owned 76 pairs herself...huh?

The jeans looked cheaply made, unattractive, and the gals didn't have a good answer as to what made the waistline any more effective than the millions of other jeans out there made with stretchy waistlines. All the other sharks gave soft reasons why they were "out" but Kevin said "You have 0% chance of making it". I was shocked and felt awful (as did the other sharks) for the two gals who stood there crying, but Kevin was right and saved those gals from wasting a lot of their time and $$$ if they heeded his warning.

I watch from time-to-time. I think it's a great learning experience for anyone who is interested in starting their own business. I would hope people realize that most new businesses fail within several years for a variety of reasons and this show does give a huge dose of reality by asking about markets, capitalization, profit margin, cash flow, competitors, quality of product itself and management of the business. You want to succeed? You have to have thick skin, a solid business plan, and the willingness to work 16 hour days to be a success.

Great show, entertaining and opportunity to learn a few things. I've never missed an episode. Love to see what the entrepreneur's come up with and listen to the feedback from the investors. I like all the investors, especially, Mr. Wonderful & Mark Cuban's candor. I find their honesty refreshing.....and to the point!

.

Love that show.

I will watch the re-runs on CNBC.

I watch a lot of educational CNBC. I like "American Greed."

I also watch ID/Discovery... true crime dramas... they can be educational too.
For one thing, I've learn the American "justice" system coddles criminals and
promotes crime.

I've been watching it since it came on. I like most of the inventions and learning how the presenters came up with them. Learning how much the presenters have invested in their product or company has thoroughly deflated my enthusiasm of marking an invention or business idea of my own (I have a notebook and a word document of ideas).
It's kind of sad to watch Barbara struggle for respect from the other sharks. And sexist to see the women sharks rally for women presenters.
I assume Mr. Wonderful puts on that persona (or pumps it up) for the benefit of the show. I can't tell if it helps the show.
Some of the guest sharks have been real dicks; Richard Branson and the founder of GoPro in particular. Worse than Mr Wonderful!

On a related note: I recently learned that Tom-Chee, that was on Shark Tank, recently got bought out and the new owner shut down their restaurants. I got the impression that they were a novelty that tried to act like a 'main stream' restaurant / brand.

I don't like when they denigrate a potential inventor. You don't want to invest fine. Don't and shut up.
I am glad they tell it as it is. I usually agree with them. Better to learn their problems right off in a business than suffer later when they fail. Tell them what to expect! They don't suffer fools!!

The sharks also make mistakes. If you search online, you can find stats on businesses that did well, or ones that failed, or end up doing ok without getting a deal. It's also interesting to read what the sharks missed. The big one is Uber. They coulda' made millions..................

I used to watch it every week, now never.
Reasons:
I am sick of watching very rich guys get even richer. Greed Tank.
The new entrepreneurs are already successful. In earlier years
they were just starting out and I sympathized. Not any more.
BTW, making a million bucks is NOT everyone's "American Dream".
Finally, I have never wanted to buy even one product or service on the show.

.

I like game shows [like Wheel of Fortune and the old game show Cash Cab] where ordinary people can win a lot of money.

So maybe that is why I also like Shark Tank.

Recently I was talking with a friend. I mentioned I like game shows because it makes me happy when other people win money. Ironically, she said she does NOT like game shows because she is not the one winning the money.

I got bored with it after two years. The only product I tried from the show, Scrub Daddy, was truly terrible, the worst!
