Anyone ever have a gait analysis?

Started walking about 2.5 miles most evenings 4 years ago for exercise. Around the second year my right hip joint started bothering me, and I thought I was going to have to give it up. Turns out I was walking with my feet way too close together. So I started trying to correct that and the problem has nearly gone away. No doctors, no specialists, no X-rays, no tests.

There is almost no information on the web describing a plain old walking gait---only power walking and speed walking. Most sites just push foot orthotics to compensate.

Just saying...If you have a hip or knee problem walking, you might want to check how you walk first. It's never too late to change, but it takes practice and concentration.

Besides, it's more fun to walk like John Wayne.;)

I don't think I've ever had a gait problem, but kudos to you Nancy for solving your problem without doctors, x-rays, etc. Here's an old video, but it seems to be informative about normal gait.

Thanks, SeaBreeze. That's the first video I've seen that even *mentions* width of base (@7:34, for 15 seconds).

I know most women have hips set farther apart than most men. Wonder what
he would recommend for women.

More hip rotation cuts down on width of base. I'm working on that next.

I may end up walking like a cross between John Wayne and (an elderly) Gina Lollobrigida:eek:mg:.
