Anyone had a brush with Pneumonia?

I remember my Father having it in the early 70’s.
He got us three kids out of bed at about midnight saying,
“This is not our house. We have to go home”
We walked about 1/2 a mile before he sort of zoned out and we steered him back home.
Us kids just thought he was drunk again.
He spent time in hospital but that is all I remember.

My Brother contracted Pneumonia at one time. He was about 20 years old and a heavy drinker.
I think that contributed to his contracting it.
 

Yep. had it 3 times.. once as a child, and I had to be put into a convalescence home afterwards for a period of time.. I think it was quite a long time... and again the winter of '77... where I was bed bound only just 22.. and the doctor had to come into the house every day for 10 days to give me injections to help me breathe..

I got another bout a couple of years ago, but this time it wasn't so bad...

Just to add I'm not a drinker.. never have been
 
Brush with? No. I had it. Twice. Recovery from the first time was about two months. The second was called "walking pneumonia," and not as serious as the first time but still made me pretty sick and took a couple of weeks to get better. IIRC, they're both bacterial infections. Hope I never get it again.
 

I've had it a few times in recent years. It's rough and takes a while to get over, but it wasn't half as bad as my bout with Covid.

My son had pneumonia last winter and it was really bad. He went to urgent care first and was prescribed one type of anti-biotic, then after a few days of getting worse, went to the family doc who gave him a stronger anti-biotic, then a few days later I took his temperature and it was 102, a half hour later I took it again and it had gone up to 103. :eek:

I drug him out of bed and took him to the hospital where they hooked him up with IV's of liquids and antibiotics. I could tell the doctors were worried and that really scared me. By the next day he was starting to get better so he came home and was able to return to work in about a week.

He doesn't drink or smoke.

Our kids (well he's 56) have been brought up with so many antibiotics that they are immune to many of them. When I was a teen I got tonsillitis every year, would go to the doctor, he would give me a shot of penicillin, and I'd be better by the time I got home. That's all over now. I really fear we'll be dying of simple infections in a few years.

Yes, like you Patty I had it at about that age. I only have spotty, vague memories of it. I think I really had my parents worried. I believe I was miserable, but not worried.
 
I had what was known as Walking Pneumonia in the 90s. The worst coughing I ever had. I went to an Urgent Care and was prescribed some big giant tablets that knocked it out.
 
I've only had it once that I know of. That was in about 2017ish, 2018. I didn't have much of a fever. Just a persistent cough that didn't go away for a couple of weeks. Finally they gave me an antibiotic after telling me on the first visit that it was only bronchitis. The antibiotic fixed it.
 
My wife got it while we were on a cruise. They gave her antibiotics on the ship, but her O2 level was too low for her to fly. She was hospitalized for 3 nights until her O2 level was safe for her to fly.
That was the happiest day for her because the hospital was a real snake pit. At some time later, the hospital was closed.
 
My grandfather got it way back in 1914 when my father was a lad of 5. It eventually took him leaving a wife and 5 children alone. I have had the pneumonia injection only last year. It's supposed to last a lifetime.
