Anyone had a ganglion cyst?

I have one on my wrist right now. Seems to be the return of one I had 42 years ago. That one I had to have surgically removed as it was on my right hand and was causing pain in my ring and pinky finger. As a bookkeeper,it made working difficult.

The surgery was awful-but that was my fault. The Anesthesiologist came in before surgery to tell me what he would be doing. I had thought I would be awake and would just have a local, but no,he planned on putting me under. I had a fear of that and refused,so he said he could just do a nerve block and I could remain awake. Cool. I chose that option.

Not cool.To do a nerve block, they put a tourniquet up at my shoulder. It turned out that the cyst had "roots" that had wrapped around nerves (hence the pain I was having in my fingers) and what was supposed to be a 10 minute surgery ended up taking 45 minutes. The pain of that tourniquet was excrutiating. Doc ended up saying if he had any idea it was that extensive,he never would have let me have a nerve block.

I am just going to live with the ganglion this time lol.
What an awful experience.
I hope it comforts you to know these things can cure themselves. Our bodies do want to be well, so our immune systems do take care of diseases. I couldn't touch it a month ago as it was so painful but now it's disappeared.

(I believe in prayer so I prayed to Jesus Christ asking for healing).

I don't think you should do that.

The "roots" are what classify that thing as a ganglion cyst. They're also called tentacles. Anyway, over time they will tighten around nerves and blood vessels, and grow into surrounding tissues, all of which can cause serious, permanent damage. (according to my hand specialist)

I had one removed from my wrist, as well, many years ago. The cyst I had was wrapped around a major artery. If it hadn't been removed, it would have eventually restricted proper blood flow in my hand. Fortunately, the surgeon got all of it, but he ordered annual scans for a few years or so, to watch for any regrowth.

Hmmm, interesting. And thank you,"tentacles" was the word I was looking for-I kept thinking "testicles" and going "no,that`s not the right word" lol. So happens I see my GP on Friday-I`ll ask him about it. I no longer fear general anesthesia (even though I know I should) so if it needs to be taken care of,not a big deal.

Had one!

Left wrist. No pain. Just grew and grew, and went away, only to soon return.

Then it went a second time and never returned.

I'm not sure but I think I have one on the top of my ankle. It's always popping back up after I massage it down. I suppose I should consult a Dr. but I have been anti-doctor lately. Sick of going to them. I've been to so many over the past 40 years. I've just had enough.
