Anyone Had Cortisone Shots For Frozen Shoulder?

I injured my rotator cuff tendon and went through a long period of rehab physio which helped with getting up, down and forward arm motion. But the problem of backward motion is still there.

In December I did have one cortisone shot which helped a great deal, the problem now is the pain and stiffness is now back.

I understand they will only do two shots max. Do you think a second would help once and for all or just a waste of time?

I currently have rotator cuff tendinitis, and I know exactly what you mean about being unable to stretch behind , I am now able to stretch further up , and to brush my own hair, but I still find it difficult to put my own coat on or to scratch my back... I had 2 cortisone injections in my back previously which worked fine ... but with my shoulders I decided to just rely on exercise
However, I think you have very little to lose by opting for the second cortisone injection if the shoulder is very painful.. it'll work or it won't , it may make it worse initially tho', so unless your in actual pain rather than the stiffness, I would leave the cortisone injection in case the tendinitis returns with a vengeance

Thanks Hollydolly, I hear you about the hair, I came home in tears when I had to get mine cut as I just could not do the do anymore. I do not suit a pixie cut but it is growing slow but sure, there are worse things :upset:

This is a tear in the tendon and here they will not do surgery for a smaller tear, it has to be a complete or almost completely torn, and I consider that a last resort anyway. I think I will try the second shot, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Absolutely, I agree.. I hope it works for you, !!...and yes I can understand the emotion with regard to the haircut, I'm like you, I don't suit my hair short, and at one point I almost went and had it chopped off, simply because I just was almost in tears with pain trying to brush it or put it up or wash it in the shower, ( I just couldn't raise my arms) , but I persevered, and although it still hurts now to do it, it's bearable.. as long as I'm careful.. Let us know how you get on...

I had a cortisone shot for frozen shoulder and it helped. My doctor then sent me to the right physical therapist who had someone who could do a massage that would find the trouble spots and ease them up. Between that and the exercises from physical therapy, I didn't need a second shot.

I tore a rotator cuff about 4 years ago. I had a cortisone shot, and the doctor sent me to a physical therapist who laid out a routine of exercises to do on my BandFlex home gym in the basement. The shot reduced the pain substantially, and doing the exercises faithfully over a period of 3 or 4 months pretty well allowed the damage to heal. I haven't had any repeat of the problem, and I am now a lot more careful about lifting things, etc.

I went to the doc this morning as the pain is getting worse and a lump appeared toward the front of the shoulder. Yikes! So now ultrasound is set up for next week, I have done all the exercises since last July, had treatment with tens machine, lazer, one cortisone shot. All this because someone forgot to put a sign or cone up for a newly washed wet floor grrrrr

My very dear friend suffered terribly with this earlier this year.
She got pushed around from doctor to doctor until 1 finally had a solution.
He put her under General anesthesia and manually rotated it to unfreeze it then did cortisone deep down into the joint...she did a couple of months of therapy has pretty much regaining most of its ROM.

In this is the shoulder actually frozen ? as in will not move ?...or is it just extreme pain, and this the name given to it?

I ask because i have an extremely painful R/shoulder . treating with the normal, NSAID, bio-freeze, etc....Hoping it will not get any worse ?

They will do more cortisone shots if you need them, at least that was the case with me. I had several of them for my neck after a bad car accident. They helped me a lot. You can look for a doctor who is a pain management specialist. Mine is an anethesiologist and he helped me a lot.
