Yes, decades ago. Like their concept of 'gaman' (grace under pressure, or 'to bear the seemingly unbearable with dignity and patience') that was responsible for some beautiful arts/crafts from everyday materials available in the US internment camps it is a notion that appeals to me.

The Smithsonian has a collection of them and actually sent it touring USA in early 2000s.
