Anyone like to battle mobs of monsters or delve into deep dark dungeons swinging their broadsword or battle hammer to save the world? :)

I played DAOC for a few years and then left for LOTRO when that came out. I still play GW2 and LOTRO from time to time with a couple of others I have known for a long time. They are both in their 70's. There are many senior players who do still play MMO's.

I've been switching back and forth from FF14 to GW2. I enjoy both. FF14 I have only been playing for a couple of months. I tried it out as it was recommended for lower vision as it's UI is more customizable. I like both games a lot, however. I've played GW2 for about a year and a half. They're great for exercising hand/eye coordination, dexterity, and especially memory.

I know many enjoy FF14 but I just never could get into it. I enjoy LOTRO because it closely follows the lore of all the books. It's aged a lot and can be frustrating to play sometimes because the servers are whacky but I still enjoy getting on from time to time and explore that world. I read somewhere that those over 60 make up about 30% of the MMO players which makes sense since the younger ones are playing different types of games now. And 40% of that 30% are women which sounds about right. I think that many still play for the reasons you mentioned and the social aspect of the games.

I tried LOTRO a long while back. At some point I was side tracked into STO for a time, then settled into SWTOR for a long while. I seemed to get burnt out in both sto and swtor. I tried LOTRO again, but it didn't hold my interest for some reason. Maybe I should try it again. It is an older tech game tho I think.

I like GW2, but it's getting so grindy--guess they all are. Although I'm intending to start WvW in it, I've avoided straight PVP so far in all of them. I'm not competely sold on FF14 yet either. I'm still in a trial period. It just doesn't seem as smooth and controllable as GW2. FF14 does have a better story-line, however.
Interesting player age stats you mentioned.

Overall, I think GW2 is the most user friendly MMO. My problem with it though is it can get grindy like you said. I'm not into PVP either and there is a lot of PVE in GW2 but sometimes it does feel aimless.

LOTRO is very tricky with newer PC's. The graphics still hold up pretty well but getting it to run on even DX 11 settings is a chore. And it's has not been modified for higher resolutions these days so the text can be rather small. But if you are into the lore of Lord of the Rings it is worth a try. It's a very story driven game. It's a good game to chill out to while watching a movie or TV show.

I've been in and out of RPGs for a couple of decades. Spent a lot of time in WoW and SWTOR. It might be unusual, but my problem is that I've always used my mouse to move characters. I just can't get used to using my keyboard for that. I gave it a good try with LOTRO, but it was a no-go.

Anyone know of a good RPG that lets you use your mouse for movement?

I tried a couple of role playing games on the win 95 platform. One was Lara Croft. The temple of something. One was this really other worldly one that promised to be the new thing. I got stuck trying to do something so bad I had to quit. D&D was the younger generation.

People learned a lot about computer/human interface while programming those games. Game theory is being used continually in the new programming. The shoot em up games led to Assange becoming a traitor. :)

All the games I've played I usually use the keyboard for movement, but I've also used the mouse in some limited instances. Ever tried a gaming mouse with lots of buttons? For movement I've always switched the default keys from WASD to FSDE. Since I touch type it just always made more sense to me that way. What ever works best for you is the correct way in my opinion. Lots of players use the mouse for movement and the buttons for skills. I never could do that. I have to click on the skill buttons with the cursor.:)

Is "Civilization" considered a RPG?

In a strange way it is an RPG but not in the traditional sense. The fact that you can start a civilization and build it in the direction that you think is best makes it an RPG to me. I have put more hours in the Civilization series over any other games.
