I've been switching back and forth from FF14 to GW2. I enjoy both. FF14 I have only been playing for a couple of months. I tried it out as it was recommended for lower vision as it's UI is more customizable. I like both games a lot, however. I've played GW2 for about a year and a half. They're great for exercising hand/eye coordination, dexterity, and especially memory.I played DAOC for a few years and then left for LOTRO when that came out. I still play GW2 and LOTRO from time to time with a couple of others I have known for a long time. They are both in their 70's. There are many senior players who do still play MMO's.
I tried LOTRO a long while back. At some point I was side tracked into STO for a time, then settled into SWTOR for a long while. I seemed to get burnt out in both sto and swtor. I tried LOTRO again, but it didn't hold my interest for some reason. Maybe I should try it again. It is an older tech game tho I think.I know many enjoy FF14 but I just never could get into it. I enjoy LOTRO because it closely follows the lore of all the books. It's aged a lot and can be frustrating to play sometimes because the servers are whacky but I still enjoy getting on from time to time and explore that world. I read somewhere that those over 60 make up about 30% of the MMO players which makes sense since the younger ones are playing different types of games now. And 40% of that 30% are women which sounds about right. I think that many still play for the reasons you mentioned and the social aspect of the games.
I've been in and out of RPGs for a couple of decades. Spent a lot of time in WoW and SWTOR. It might be unusual, but my problem is that I've always used my mouse to move characters. I just can't get used to using my keyboard for that. I gave it a good try with LOTRO, but it was a no-go.Anyone like to battle mobs of monsters or delve into deep dark dungeons swinging their broadsword or battle hammer to save the world?![]()
All the games I've played I usually use the keyboard for movement, but I've also used the mouse in some limited instances. Ever tried a gaming mouse with lots of buttons? For movement I've always switched the default keys from WASD to FSDE. Since I touch type it just always made more sense to me that way. What ever works best for you is the correct way in my opinion. Lots of players use the mouse for movement and the buttons for skills. I never could do that. I have to click on the skill buttons with the cursor.I've been in and out of RPGs for a couple of decades. Spent a lot of time in WoW and SWTOR. Anyone know of a good RPG that lets you use your mouse for movement?

Not familiar with that game, but from what I've read it is 'similar' to rpg's in some ways. Seems to be more of a strategy--maybe old D&D type--game from the description. Is "Civilization" considered a RPG?
In a strange way it is an RPG but not in the traditional sense. The fact that you can start a civilization and build it in the direction that you think is best makes it an RPG to me. I have put more hours in the Civilization series over any other games. Is "Civilization" considered a RPG?
