Anyone remember Bob Ross?

I went to a funeral service today and this man walked in who was a dead ringer for the old TV artist/ painter Bob Ross. I kept mentioning it to anyone who would listen, but not a single person got my reference.

Tell me you remember this wonderful painter!

I'm a Bob Ross fan. He could bang out a cool painting in 20+ minutes. I really had no idea how good he was till I took a college painting class. While he's saying, "There's a happy cloud here", he was using the same classic techniques that Da Vinci used. He made it look so easy because he already worked out things like light, contrast, composition, spacing, tones, flow, color balance, etc, etc. His art just didn't happen to look good.

Once in awhile I'll find reruns of Bob Ross on PBS . I always stop and watch. Loved when he had to clean out the brush and beat the crap out of easel leg! Even he laughed then.

And then there was Jon Nagy. Who else got a "Learn to Draw With Jon Nagy" kit for Christmas?

Spoiler: even with his help, I never learned to draw....

Do you remenber "Draw Me" on matchbook covers?
I did it and some men came to my house and tried to sign me up. I didn't bite. I was probably 10 years old.

Bob really did have that 'soothing' voice didn't he?

Your pants could be on fire and Bob would say something like..."Relax now. The flames certainly add a dimension to the overall make up of your wardrobe."

Decades ago a friend who was about 9 years younger than me turned me on to Bob Ross. She said she watched him because of his calm, soothing voice. I started watching him too. He was soothing. You didn't make a painting mistake, you had "happy little accidents". His technique and how fast he did those paintings amazed me. I got tired of the cabin scenes though. It was sad to see him go. R.I.P. Bob

I liked Bob Ross and watched him a lot. I even did some painting based on watching his shows, he was a very talented artist and entertainer.
